Falcons Move To 5-1 Record With 5-1 Win Over Cooper City Cowboys
With another night of solid pitching and timely hitting, the Flanagan Falcons won their 3rd in a row, with a 5-1 victory over Cooper City that moved them to 2-0 in 6A-District 12. Senior Pichi Torres (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB) earned his first save by closing out the 6th and 7th for the Falcons.
Offensively, Geoffrey Jimenez (1-3, 2 R, BB, 3B, SB) hit his 3rd triple of the 2010 campaign in the home half of the first inning and scored on a Collin Martindale RBI groundout. Jimenez would score again in the 3rd inning after drawing a walk. stealing third and scoring on a wild throw from the Cowboys backstop. In the 4th inning, Mike Melendez (1-3) led off with a single and Corey Janson (2-3, 2 2B) struck with his first of two doubles on the night, however, Melendez was thrown out at the plate. Three batters later, Ryan Lozada (1-2, RBI, BB) would deliver a clutch two out single to extend the Falcons lead to 3-0. After the Cowboys picked up an unearned run in the top of the 5th inning, Flanagan shortstop Ricky Santiago (1-1, RBI, BB, SAC, SB) drove in Martindale with a sacrifice fly to deep left field for his team leading 8th RBI of the season. Robert Collin, pinch running for Janson after his second two-bagger, would close out the Flanagan scoring in the 6th inning on a steal attempt of home that induced a throwing error from the Cooper City first baseman.
