Torres Goes Distance in 6-2 District Win Over Everglades

Posted by Jose Jimenez on Feb 26 2010 at 04:00PM PST

It didn't come easy, as after 4 1/2 innings played, the Falcons had no hits and were staring at a 2-1 deficit, but behind another solid pitching performance from senior righthander Pichi Torres (2-1) and key two-run hits from Collin Martindale (1-3, R, 2 RBI) and Ricky Santiago (1-3, 2 RBI) in the bottom of the 5th, the Flanagan Falcons pulled away late to defeat the Everglades Gators, 6-2.

Torres pitched a complete game 7-hitter for the Falcons, allowing no earned runs while striking out 11 and walking only one.  Junior firstbaseman Mike Melendez also belted his 2nd home run of the season.  The Falcons wait a week to get back on the home diamond against the Cooper City Cowboys at 6:30pm on Friday, March 5.
