Falcons Come Up Short in 5-4 Loss To Nova Titans
The Flanagan Falcons lost a close one on the road Friday night to the Nova Titans, 5-4, snapping their 8 game winning streak and dropping their record to 20-3. The boys in green were stymied by Nova starter Patrick Morris, who threw a complete game 5-hitter, allowing two earned runs while striking out 12 Falcons.
It looked good early for Flanagan, as former Titan Danny Rojo-Campos delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single in the first inning to provide a 2-0 lead. However, after going down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first to Falcons starter Diego Delgado (4 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 0 BB), the Titans would score all five of their runs in the bottom of the second on three straight two out hits, the biggest being a 2-run double from Nova 2nd baseman Kerry Doane.
Delgado would settle down in the third and fourth inning, facing the minimum and keeping it close at 5-2. The Falcons would reward the senior lefty's composure with two 2-out runs in the top of the fifth, as Ricky Santiago (1-4, R) scored on a Nova error and Zack Jackson (1-3, RBI) drove in Justin Frias (2-4, 2 R).
After a pair of Nova baserunners got on to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, David Thomas (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB) would relieve Delgado to end the threat and keep the Falcons deficit at 5-4. However, Morris kept the Falcons bats quiet in the sixth and seventh, dealing them their third one run loss of the season.
The Falcons will look to bounce back on Tuesday, 4/21, at 6:30pm when they travel to face the Taravella Trojans.
