2008 Fall Ball Recap

Posted by Dave Beaudoin at Nov 17, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dalton-Hinsdale Finishes Season as Fall Ball League Runner-up

D-H (9-4) scored 2 in the top of the first inning in the Championship game, but in the end, could not stifle the bats of the (12-1) Maroon team.  Several opposing coaches, league officials and umpires commented about the individual improvements made by the team members during the season and many remarked about the enthusiasm our entire squad brought to the field each game.

Dalton-Hinsdale finished the season with a team batting average of .370 and .530 on-base percentage.  The hitters tallied 124 hits, 59 walks and 87 runs in 13 games.   Defensively, D-H allowed just 73 hits, recorded 110 Ks and permitted only 63 runs.

The Dalton-Hinsdale Little League was well represented in the ’08 Pittsfield Fall Ball league by members of 6 out of our 8 house league teams as well as a few Galusha League players on 4 different fall ball teams (All made the quarter finals).

Congratulations to all DHLL/Galusha players and remember -

DHLL opening day is only 6 months away!!

Dalton Extends Winning Streak to 8 and Advances to Fall-Ball Championship Game.

10/14 Dalton jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning.  Matt Maffuccio and Collin Parrott showed patience at the plate drawing walks to lead off the inning.  Andrew Kowalczyk's single to left loaded the bases and Andrew Beaudoin grounded one up the middle to knock in the first run.  With bases still loaded, Will Sondrini singled to center, plating two more Dalton runners.

In the top of the second, Trevor Salvini extended his hitting streak with a single.  Dakota Greene then hit a triple up the line allowing Trevor to score all the way from first.  Wyatt Burnett hit a grounder to second, knocking in Greene.

That proved to be all the runs Dalton needed as Andrew Kowalzcyk no-hit our opponents through 3 innings.  The Blue team scored 3 unearned in the bottom of the 4th, forcing the early call to the bullpen for the closer, Will Sondrini.  After getting out of the 4th inning jam, Will struck out the side in the 5th using just ten pitches. The Blue team threatened again in the 6th when the lead-off hitter battled to draw a walk.  With 2 outs, a man on third and the tying run at the plate, Andrew Beaudoin made a diving stop at second base and threw to McMahon to end the game, sending the Dalton squad to the Championship.

10/12  Dalton knocks off the 5th seed to advance to the Fall-Ball Semi-finals

Dalton scored a run in both the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead at the halfway point.  However, giving up 3 unearned runs in the top of the 4th put the local nine in need of more scoring opportunities.  They did not need to wait long as McMahon and Kowalczyk drew walks to open the bottom of the inning and Parrot singled to load the bases.  Sean Fahey grounded to the right side and the fielder's choice allowed the tying run to score.  The game's big blow came one batter later when, with runners on second and third, Will Sondrini smashed a line drive off of the centerfield fence.  Both base runners scored and pushed Dalton out to a 5-3 lead.

Dalton gave one up in the top of the 5th and took a one run lead into the final frame.  Will Sondrini came in to close out the game.  With no outs, the lead off hitter got a line drive past the diving effort of  first baseman McMahon and resulted in a triple.  With the tying run on third base, Sondrini reach down and proceeded to strike out the next three batters and secure the victory.
