The Royals squeaked by the Mariners, 5-2, in a very well-played RBRL playoff game. It was a pitcher’s duel, with the Royals getting solid contributions from Nate Vitarisi (2 IP), Brady Keaveney (2 IP), Grady Ventura (2 IP) and Ryan Koehler (1 IP) on the hill. For the Mariners, John Irmer pitched 3 solid innings, followed by AJ Rizzo, Jamison Bentley, and Sam Clark.
Offensively for the Royals, Keaveney got on base each of his three trips to the plate, with a double and two walks and 3 runs scored. Vitarisi and Avery Koehler each singled and scored.
Richie Caraviello and Cameron O’Mara each singled and scored for the Mariners. Jamison Bentley stroked a two-out opposite field double in the top of the seventh to put runners on second and third and bringing the tying run to the plate. But, Koehler got the next batter to ground back to him on the mound and he threw to first for the final out.
