1 Sep. 02. Inter Bethesda played it's 1st (4) games together as a new team in a 11 v. 11 format over the Labor Day weekend in the Jimmy Dilenno Kickoff tournament (31 Aug. - 1 Sep. '02) at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex in New Castle, Delaware. IB played well against top division opponent Lower Merion Velez (PA) but in the end LM Velez prevailed 3-2 over IB in its 1st game ever together. The tide turned in favor of IB in its 2nd game against YMCA Mutiny (DE), and IB won a tight game, 1-0. In game 3 against formidable NCSL/Div. 1 opponent, MSC United (MD), Inter Bethesda again played well but in the end lost a tough match, 0-2. IB played another tough match in its 4th game against the Strike Force (NJ), with the scored tied 0-0 at halftime. But, IB stormed back in the 2nd half with a 3-0 victory. The Inter Bethesda team's roots stem from the United Team Harkes team of the Washington Soccer Club, who played 7 v. 7 together for three seasons with a (9) player roster before upsizing the team to a 11 v. 11 team by adding (6) new top division players, transferring the team to the Bethesda Soccer Club and renaming it to Inter Bethesda in the summer '02.
