HHS DEFEATS MT JULIET 5-2

Posted by Andy Gilley on Apr 18 2018 at 05:00PM PDT

The Commandos bounced back from a 1-0 loss the night before to defeat the Golden Bears and gain the season series split.

The Commandos scored a run in the 3rd, two in the 4th and two in the 5th to give Junior right-hander Cameron Hansen all the run support he would need en route to his 6th win of the year.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the third Hayden Mullins singled and Brett Coker Tripled to give HHS a 1-0 lead.

Mt Juliet rebounded with a double from Austin Dyer and a single from Cade Hoppe to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 4th.

The Commandos came right back in the bottom of the 4th with two runs of their own to retake the lead.  Gabe Dalton led off the inning with an infield single and stole second.  Nate Vaughn singled to score Dalton to make the score 2-1.  Courtesy Runner Grant Lang would score on an infield single off the bat of Austin Mays to make the score 3-1 Commandos.

The Commandos added much needed insurance in the bottom of the 5th.  Coker and Harrison Williams led off the inning with back-to-back singles.  A triple off the bat of Dalton drove in both Coker and pinch runner Grant Lang to make the score 5-1 Commandos.

The Bears threatened as the rain started falling in the top of the 7th. An error and an infield single was followed by a hit batter to load the bases.  This ended Hansen's day on the mound for the Commandos.  Hansen left after giving up only three hits and striking out 9 hitters.  Kobe Carter was summoned from the bulpen.  Carter got a 6-4-3 double play and a strikeout to end the threat and the game while picking up his 4th save of the year.

With the win HHS improves to 19-4 overall and 8-2 in District 9AAA.  The Commandos will next be in action at home on Thursday night at 7:00 vs Goodpasture.
