Our new Windermere Prep Theatre Repertory Company (high school) will present, The Secret Garden, April 3-4, 2020. This enchanting classic of children’s literature is reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Night Mother. Orphaned in India, 11 year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers”, spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden’s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

This production will be student-led, directed, and managed by members of the theatre rep company. Auditions will begin as soon as we return and will be adjudicated by a guest panel of professionals in the area. This newly formed rep company is advised and sponsored by Mrs. Rosemarie Redman, Department Chair for Theatre Arts.

Congratulations! We are pleased to announce the nominations for the Applause Awards that will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 7 pm at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Arts: Walt Disney Theater. Modeled after the Tony Awards, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Applause Awards celebrates high school teachers and students involved in musical theater. This event features outstanding performances from participating schools. It showcases the enthusiasm, dedication, and talent of high school musical theater programs, and encourages schools to grow and continue improving their programs.

Here are some comments directed towards the whole cast:
“Overall, the cast presented their characters as believable, easy to recognize whether human (their status) or non-human (their species).”
“Chef Louis’s “sous chefs” were very focused and excited to be onstage. They all performed their blocking very well and knew their cues and truly functioned as an ensemble.”
“All of the sea creatures on the house ramps and onstage had an identity. They also knew their choreography and worked well within the confines of their tiny ramp. Smiling faces, focused on the audience or their instruments, aware of each other in the space.”
“LITTLE MERMAID was the perfect vehicle for your performance demographic. Every person on the stage could fully grasp the show’s concept and exercise their creative imaginations to the fullest.”
“Your seasoned performers in the ensemble reacted appropriately and had strong characterizations, giving honest and believable support to the main characters’ words and actions. Their commitment to portraying their world made it possible for the audience to enter and share that world as well.”
“Most of the sea creatures were very consistent with the swimming movements of their arms. The Sous Chefs added wonderful fun to Joao Magalhaes/Chef Louis’ energetic preparation of his seafood dinner.”
“Whether part of the onstage or house ramp ensemble, all the students showed great energy — performing all their steps smiling and being extremely happy."
