Poker Tournament Deals Lots of Fun!

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Oct 27, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Our third annual Poker Tournament, held Saturday, October 24 at the Best Western Seven Seas, was another roaring success and enjoyed by all who attended.

An evening of music, food, fun, camaraderie (and even a little card playing), was capped off with the championship going to Larry Perkins. Larry won the grand prize of a two-night stay at the beautiful Bristol Hotel in downtown San Diego. Dozens of Clairemont Hilltoppers parents, friends and relatives turned out for what has become an annual social highlight for our Hilltoppers community.

Congratulations to the others who reached our "final table" and walked away with prizes: Denise Pelletier, Will Bechtel, Ed West, Kevin Bonner, Dan Fauth, Bebe Pearson and Henry Garnett.

A big thank you to league parent Joe Tocyzlowski for providing the venue once again, as well as our grand prize. Thanks also to Cathy Campbell and the rest of the hotel staff who made our event run so smoothly, and to all those who donated our fun and wonderful prizes. Appreciation also goes to our fine dealers, who worked tirelessly throughout the evening, along with tournament directors Roger Otterson and Troy Keltner.

If you missed the tournament this time, talk to someone who was there and hear just how much fun it was. Our next tournament will be April 24, so mark your calendars and come out and join the party!

Fall Ball Underway

Posted by Ken Cicalo at Sep 8, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Teams have been formed and have begun practicing for our fun, instructional Fall Ball season.

Games will begin on Sunday, September 11 and will continue through Sunday, November 20. All games are played on Sunday afternoons. We will have two teams in the Farm division, three in Minors, three in Intermediate and one in Juniors. In addition to playing the teams from our own league, our teams will have some games with other nearby leagues.

As of September 1, we did have a few openings for spots on our teams, so if you have a child who wants to plays and is between age 7-15 (as of April 30, 2017), please contact our Player Agent Michelle Mendez (michholm7@yahoo.com) as soon as possible to see if there is still room.

Fall Ball is a time for training and development of players as well as umpires. It is a fun and relaxed environment where players can improve their skills while learning valuable tools that are important as they move up in a division or are just beginning their baseball careers. Managers are encouraged to use this time to develop players at different positions and practice pitching. Games are played on Sunday afternoons, with teams typically practicing no more than once a week. Generally players who participate in the fall ball program benefit greatly from the additional instruction and experience, especially if they may be moving up to a new division next spring.

Sign Up For Seniors

Little League does NOT end at 12-years old in Intermediate, or even at 14-years-old in Juniors. Little League also has a division for 15 & 16-year-olds – Seniors.

We are forming Seniors teams to start play at the beginning of June, following the completion of the high school baseball seasons. Teams will play a quick 12-game season in June, then head right into All-Star tournament play in July.

In recent years, teams from our older divisions have had great success in tournament play, twice reaching the finals of the Southern California championship. Many of the players on these teams are longtime veterans of Clairemont Hilltoppers.

New players need an original birth certificate and three proofs of residency (dated between Feb. 1, 2017 and January 31, 2018) along with $70 to signup. We will be doing signups on Saturday, May 12 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Cadman Park. Fill out the forms in the Handout below and bring them with you on Saturday. Contact Player Agent Michelle Mendez at 619-977-6018 or michholm7@yahoo.com for more information.
