Mike Van Cleave Wins National Volunteer Award

Posted by Ken Cicalo on Aug 17 2005 at 05:00PM PDT in Spring 2016
Longtime Clairemont Hilltopper Mike Van Cleave has been named one of five national winners of a Volunteer-of-the Year award sponsored by Little League Baseball and Ace Hardware. From among the hundreds of thousands of Little League volunteers around the country, Mike has been been selected as the Western Region winner of the “Ace Helpful Hero Award.” Mike is being honored by Ace and Little League for “embodying the spirit of helpfulness and community in his local Little League program.” His prize was a two-minute shopping spree on Tuesday, August 16 at the Griffin Ace Hardware store in Carmel Valley. This was a tremendously fun event, as Mike scurried up and down the aisles, loading shopping carts with lots of goodies (almost all of which he promptly donated to our league!). One of the most dedicated volunteers in the 50-year history of Hilltoppers, Mike is richly deserving of this award. What a great celebration for a dedicated Hilltopper and what a great honor for our league! To see the story on Little League Baseball's website, click here: Ace Helpful Hero image
