2019 Summer Villagers

The Summer Villagers program provides an opportunity for softball players, ages 7 through 14, to participate on summer travel teams.  Summer Villagers teams are selected through a competitive tryout process, so not all players will make a team. The 10u team is for players born in 2008 and 2009 and the 12u team is for players born in 2006 and 2007.

After the teams are announced, they will practice once a week during February & March at The Sports Academy in Millburn. The teams will play in 1-2 Spring tournaments, plus 3 tournaments and league play over the Summer.  Both teams will wrap up around the end of July.

All Summer Villagers teams participate in the Parkway Invitational Softball League (PISL).  The PISL involves a 10 game schedule - half played in Maplewood and/or South Orange and half played at other locations within Essex, Hudson, Morris, Middlesex, Sussex, Union and Warren Counties - as well as possible playoffs.

All Summer Villagers teams will also play in independent weekend tournaments.  The number of tournaments will vary by team depending on the experience and make-up of the team as well as the availability of appropriate tournaments.  The older Summer Villagers teams (12U and 14U) may also have the opportunity to travel out of state and play in overnight weekend tournaments (players must be accompanied by at least one parent when traveling overnight).

Some Summer Villagers teams will elect to start their season in the spring.  These teams may participate in independent weekend tournaments and/or the Central Jersey Fastpitch Softball League (CJFSL).  The CJFSL involves a 10 game schedule - played at various locations in Basking Ridge, Branchburg, Bridgewater and the surrounding areas - as well as possible playoffs.

IMPORTANT:  Players are expected to attend ALL practices and games and commit for the ENTIRE season.  Any players who are planning a vacation or who have other commitments during this period must make the coach aware of their plans at the time of tryouts.  Players who fail to comply with this request will be ineligible for summer play the following year.
