Week 3 Recap - vs. St Christopher's (SC) - After winning their first 2 games by a combined score of 82 - 12, St.Christopher's entered Saturday morning's contest with St. Peter's likely expecting to match their 41 ppg scoring average while hoping to limit the Saints to a single digit offensive tally. When the first stanza ended with a 12-2 SC lead, these goals looked as if they could become reality. Alas, they did not. Executing a new, more-patient, motion-intensive offense and a feistier, Coach Matt-inspired "Mad dog" man-to-man defense, the Saints scored more points than SC had allowed this year (13) and restricted SC to a season-low 14 field goals (28 pts.). Leading the charge on offense were Zach (4 pts), and Matthew, Nate and Nick (2 each), with Jackson (2-2) and Chris (1-2) taking advantage of trips to the free-throw stripe. Henry, Mikey, Gio, Simon, and Adam kept the offense flowing with sharp cuts and strong screens while harassing SC shooters and forcing hurried shots, some of which, much to their surprise, still found the bottom of the net. Nate, Jackson, and Chris secured approximately 4 rebounds each, with the latter 2, along with Zach & Simon, committing roundball thievery with nifty steals . With remarkable improvement and mounting momentum, our 4th grade boys head into Christmas vacation and the St. Mary of the Falls Holiday Hoops Tourney with visions of victory dancing in their heads.
P.S. Speaking of Chris, we'll be bolstered this week by the return of Coach Chris Snyder who was in Beantown with his wife Laura scouting the sports scene and other establishments.
