CHAMPIONS!!!!

Posted by Derek Hamilton on Mar 15 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
EFA-3 used timely scoring and fantastic goal-keeping to down a physical Campbell-Savona to win the 2007 YMCA Indoor Soccer Championship. Campbell-Savona, consisting of mostly 17 and 18 year old Varsity soccer players, brought a physical style of play to the court as they were consistantly whistled for fouls and altercations. However, cooler heads would prevail as EFA-3 kept their composure and moved the ball around the pitch in the fashion the game was supposed to be played. The Devils knocked the ball around finding open men and kept Campbell-Savona running around expending valuble energy ball-chasing. Ross Holden would open the scoring for EFA-3 as he picked-off a sloppy Campbell-Savona and converted to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. However, C-S would equalize before the intermission to head into halftime tied at 1-1. The second half was much of the same story. Holden again scored for EFA-3 to give them a 2-1 lead and then notch a 3rd goal for the 3-1 upperhand. Charlie Anderson and Paul Bradley provided the assists on the 2nd and 3rd goals, but again C-S would score a late goal to pull them to within one at 3-2. However, Nick Grasso would not be denied a championship as he consistantly stoned Campbell-Savona scoring opportunities time and time again to preserve the victory for EFA-3. EFA finished the season with a 8-1-3 record and a Championship trophy to be placed in the trophy case at Elmira Free Academy. As if this past season wasn't pleasing enough for EFA Soccer, it's apparent that with the play of these young men, it's apparent the the future of EFA Soccer is looking bright as well.
