13U Team Finishes Well in St. Louis!

Posted by Keith Waninger at Jun 10, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
On June 8-9-10, the Spikes 13U team traveled to St. Louis and participated in the USSSA Open/AAA tournament at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex. With 16 teams entered in the 13U division, this made for a very competitive tournament. The bracketing was set up to where only the top eight teams in pool play out of the sixteen would qualify for the championship round. The boys were able to earn a berth to the championship round by going 2-1 in pool play and only allowing six runs in all three pool games. The team won their first bracket game against the Pontiac Illinois Tomahawks 6-0. This moved them to the semi-final game vs. the St. Louis Heaters. The Heaters jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the boys battled back to come within one run before the falling 6-2 in the end with time running out. Even though they failed to make the championship game, they finished in the top four of a sixteen team field and had a very well played, competitive tournament. Way to go Spikes 13U!!! 13U Finishes 2007 @ .500

Posted by Keith Waninger at Jan 20, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2007 13U team began their season Memorial weekend following the end of the "7th Grade Cub Ball" season. The team participated in six tournaments from Owensboro Ky., to St. Louis, Mo.,  to Cincinatti, Oh., to Evansville, Indiana and inbetween. The team finished the 2007 season with a 13-13 record. The team never placed high enough in any tourney to earn any hardware, but the tournaments this team seeked out and competed in hosted some of the best competition in the eastern half of the United  States. For example, teams from as far away as Massachussets, Kansas and Tennessee were also in these various tournaments. This team lost several close heartbreaking games by a run or two. Even though the record doesn't show it, this was a very "growing season" for this team and it's players. Congratulations to each and every one of the team members!
