Americans Beat Chiefs in 4-3 Walk-Off

The Melrose Americans broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off with a 4-3 win over the Chiefs at Morelli Field on Wednesday night.

Cory Bright and Pat Costigan led the Americans’ nine hit offense with three hits each. Nick Valdario had three of the Chiefs’ nine hits.

Bobby Tramondozzi (1-0) pitched the seventh inning and picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Mitchell (4.1 innings) and Ryan Joyce (1.2 innings).

Cal Carroll (0-2) worked the final 2.2 innings and took the loss. Chiefs’ starter Evan Walsh went the first four innings for the visitors.

Blue Sox Handle Chiefs 6-3 in Lexington

(Lexington, MA) Chris Aufiero’s two run triple was the big hit in the four run second inning when the Blue Sox knocked off the Chiefs 6-3 in Lexington on Tuesday night.

Aufiero scored his second run in the fourth and Cam Meyer doubled to drive in the Blue Sox sixth run.

Robbie Cobb (2-0) pitched three innings in relief of Ryan O’Rourke, giving up one hit and a run, to earn his second win. Manny Delcarmen worked the seventh to earn his first save of the year.

Chiefs starter Josh Desai (0-1) took the loss.

Adam Johnson, David Lightbody and Nick Valdario drove in the three Chiefs runs.

The Chiefs stay on the road when they travel to Morelli Field in Melrose to meet the Americans tonight at 7:30 PM.

Expos Edge Chiefs at Maplewood, 5-4

(Malden, MA) The Middlesex Expos jumped out to a 5-1 third inning lead and then held on to edge the Chiefs 5-4 at Maplewood on Monday night.

Expos’ starter David Kerns and reliever Shawn Carlson, who picked up the save while striking out five of the last six batters he faced, were able to hold off the Chiefs’ offense.

Andrew Caulfield led the way at the plate for the Chiefs with a 2-4 night that included his second homer of the season and two RBI’s. Teddy Dziuba and Nick Valdario each had two hits and an RBI.

Tim Dunphy (2-1) went the route for the Chiefs and took his first loss of the year. The lefty allowed just two earned runs and eight hits. He struck out three.

The Chiefs begin a two game road trip on Tuesday night when they travel to Lexington to meet the Blue Sox at 8:00 PM. Om Wednesday they will visit the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM.

(Malden, MA)-The Chiefs got two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up at 5-5, then used a leadoff walk-off homer from veteran Teddy Dziuba in the eighth to beat the Lexington Blue Sox 6-5 at Maplewood.

Lefty Tim Dunphy (2-0) picked up the win with three innings of one-hit scoreless relief spelling starter Cal Carroll, who worked the first five frames.

Jacob Deziel and Ryan Noone had three hits apiece and John Bapista added two doubles to lead the Chiefs offense. Chris Rassias and Jesnel Soto recorded two hits each for the Blue Sox.

Starter Robbie Cobb (3 innings), Jake Vesling (2 innings), Borja Jones-Berasaluce (6th inning), Manny Delcarmen (7th inning) and Gavin Dauer (0-1), who took the loss in the eighth, all worked for Lexington.

The now 3-3 Chiefs are off until Monday when they will host the Middlesex Expos at 8:00 PM.
