Stanford Invitational Results

Posted by Mike Davis on Sep 25 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
The Mustang Varsity teams traveled to Stanford University to participate in the largest meet in Northern California, and one of the largest in the country.  Teams from Southern California, Washington, Colorado and even New Zealand competed in this top notch event.  Run on the famous Stanford Golf Course - home course for Stanford XC - the course is primarily groomed grass, with a couple paths to cross.  A tough hill (long, not too steep) faces runners between miles one and two.
Varsity Girls:
Daniela Gergley continues her fine season by placing 6th overall in the Division 1 Varsity Girls race.  Her time was one of the top times turned in by any Northern California girl runner.  Renee Lau had an excellent day, finishing 2nd for the Lady Stangs in a solid 99th place.    Freshman Katelin Kelly (108th) was followed closely by Jr Katie Rabago, who was finally eligible to run Varsity.  Lauren Ho (Soph)  rounded out the scoring, while Tia Pressler and Kristen Hines completed the squad. With two varsity runners not able to attend, Katie and Lauren ran 3 miles for the first time, while Tia, Kristen and Katelin completed only their second one.  This experience will help the young team as the season progresses.
Boys Varsity:
The MV Varsity Boys found themselves seeded into the "Sweepstakes" race, featuring the top talent in California.  In fact, Royal HS of Simi Valley is ranked #1 in the US!  AJ Acosta, the reining CIF 3200 runner was the individual winner in a eye-popping 15:13 for the 5K course.  It was a tough crowd for sure.  The team finished 21st out of 22nd entered, however, this was not indicative of their overall performance.  Adding in the non-seeded race, MV finished a respectable 37th out of 62 total Div 1 teams.  Importantly, they measured close to local powers College Park, Deer Valley and San Ramon.  Chris Simpson, although hobbled by an injury, again paced the Stangs with a 67th place finish.  Patrick Gandolfo ran his first 3 mile race in over three years, finishing at a 5:43 pace.  Clinton McAdams was close behing at 5:47 pace.  Danny Bartz continues to impress, finishing 4th for the team in only his second Varsity race, while Jason Kanar rounded up the scoring team.  Bahavik Kanzaria (first varsity race) and Andrew Wallace completed the team.
