News and Announcements

The Lynx kicked off their Spring 2006 season in the PRF United Cup. Although the Lynx went through their pool games unbeaten with one win and two draws it was not enough to earn a place in the championship game. The Lynx went into their first game against the Westside Chargers having only practised outside one since the end of the 2005 Fall season. The girls were very rusty and played poorly by their standards. The Lynx fell behind early and only headed clearance off the line by Rachel Gary prevented the Lynx being two down at half time. The Lynx finally started to pressure the Chargers in last 10 minutes and put them under constant pressure. After having a goal disallowed for offside, guest player Heather McNutt grabbed a dramatic equalizer from a corner kick with just two minutes remaining. Saturday afternoon saw a the Lynx take out their frustrations on the Harrison Cobras. The Lynx dominated the early possession with Lauren Heger, Claire Webb and Heather McNutt scoring in the first 10 minutes. In the second half Katie Mueller added two goals and excellent passing from Rachel Gary and Kristyn Hatke allowed Claire Webb to score her second. The Lynx ran out convincing 6-0 winners. Sunday morning saw an epic game against the very good Knoxville Outlaws. The Lynx controlled the game early and after Claire Webb was fouled just outside the penalty area Lauren Hoover stepped up and blasted the free kick home. However, the Outlaws fought back and after a period of intense pressure equalized just before half time. The Lynx took the momentum again in the second half and Cailyn Wachtel burst through to put the Lynx back in the lead. Again, the Outlaws battled back to tie the game 2-2. Needing a win to advance to the final the Lynx threw everyone forward in the final minutes with Cailyn and Lauren Heger coming close to scoring. The game finished as a 2-2 draw with the Outlaws advancing to the final and their coach being gracious enough to admit that the Lynx had deserved to win.

The Lynx finished their year as a U10 team with a dominant victory in the Jarosi-Willis Memorial Cup Gold Division on June 10-11.  With their roster bolstered by Brooke Mauro and Heather McNutt who became the 2 newest Lynx at the previous week's try-outs, the Lynx headed to Columbus for some good weather and competition.  Unfortunately, the Lynx were disappointed on both fronts as the weather was unseasonably cool and wet and the four opponents could not match the Lynx skill or athleticism.
The tournament opened with an early game against Liederkrantz Mid-Ohio SC (Mansfield, OH).  The Lynx ran out comfortable 9-0 winners with Kristyn Hatke grabbing a first half hat-trick.  The second game saw an out-classed Cleveland Kickers lose 11-1 to the Lynx.
Sunday morning saw the Lynx score eleven goals again, this time on Club X Tornados (Xenia, OH), with nine different Lynx scoring.  The final game in the round robin format competition was against the Lady Warriors (Dayton, OH).  Another walk over looked likely as Cailyn Wactel amazingly scored within 10 seconds of the opening kick off.  However, the Lady Warriors showed a lot of toughness, limiting the Lynx to two first half goals and playing them close for much of the game.  New goalkeeper Brooke Mauro was finally tested and made several saves to maintain a clean sheet.  In the end, the greater depth of the Lynx allowed them to pull away to a 7-0 victory, although the Lady Warriors played much better than the score suggested.
Every member of  the Lynx scored over the weekend; Lauren Hoover leading the way with seven goals, Katie Mueller and Cailyn Wachtel grabbing five each.  Also, the passing oriented Lynx offense recorded 24 assists; led by Heather McNutt with six.
