Royals Gear Up for Upcoming Season

Posted by Kettering Royals at Mar 6, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After their long winter slumber, the Boys in Blue joined up to share some stories of old and predictions for the future. Still high of their near miss at the 2006 MVABL championship the Royals hope that they can rebuild and get back to the final game in 2007.

The Boys in Blue have lost some key names off the 2006 roster already. Hanging up the spikes and following in the shoes of Bill Murray from Caddy Shack, Ron Runyon has moved into the next chapter of his career living the dream as a golf pro. #14 will be missed in the dugout, but he says to keep him on the on-call list as he may still get the itch to play!! Also missing from the 2007 roster is crafty Ryan "Rhino" Hall. Ryan will be working as a casino boat skipper along the Ohio River trying to win that keno jackpot. The Skipper is still in talks with UD, who has finally had enough of party animal Andrew O'Donnell, and graduating him this spring. However, OD says the dollar signs coming from a job offer in Charolette out weigh the sunflower seeds and gatorade offered for him to re-sign with the Royals. Stay tuned to the Royals newswire for more details on OD as they unfold. Royals slugger and flame-thower, Nick Bironey has been MIA during recent contract talks. Royals management hopes to convice Biron to return for a second season with the team. And the final name missing from the full-time 2007 roster, Director of Southern Player Personnel Dan Losito. Losito is trying to wrap up his degree as a volcanologist this summer, but he will try to make make time for an appearance periodically throughout the summer for the Royals.

The Royals will have their first cage session this Sunday to get the season started. Anticipated start of the 2007 season is April 15th, which leaves only 5 short weeks to prepare for opening day. Dust off those cleats as the 2007 season is almost here!image
The Royals skipper got to experience the thrill of a lifetime this off season... He was able to spend the weekend with a good friend AND the Stanley Cup! Yes that's right you read that correctly... I was able to attend a party with one of professional sports most coveted trophies. Royals Fan Club member young Eric Franklin got to join Dad in this once and a lifetime experience. Over the course of the day, I was able to hoist and smouch on the hockey jewel! And to wrap up the evening Eric and I were able to drink Pepsi from the trophy's cup! It was a great weekend filled with an experience that I will never forget, but one that Eric won't remember next month, however he'll have the pictures to remind him of this great honor he was a part of!!imageimage

Royals Don't Go Down Without a Fight...

Posted by Kettering Royals at Oct 25, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Well, the Royals faced off against the one team they have been unable to figure out in the MVABL finale, the Woodpeckers. With only 1 win against the Wood over the last 4 years they Boys in Blue hoped this would finally be their year. They entered game one with rookie and MVABL league leader in strikeouts, Nick Biron, on the mound, but the short porch and Power-vs-Power matchup backfired on the Royals. The Royals knew game one was going to be a long one when Brad T. capped off the first inning with a 308 grand salami. Biron threw everything he could at the Woodpeckers, but the offense went silent against Krafty Klaus and didn't provide him any help. The Boys in Blue were blanked 12-0 in game 1.

Game 2 proved to be more of a barn-burner as Royal Veteran Jason Griffith took the mound in the pivotal game. The Woodpeckers scored first in the bottom of the first off a RBI sacrifice. The Boys in Blue kept knocking on the door in game 2, but were unable to plate that crucial first run. In the 2nd and 4th inning the Royals managed to grind out a runner 90 feet from the plate, but were just couldn't muster that much needed 2 out hit to plate the runner. The Woodpeckers would cash in with a few runs in the bottom of the 5th, plating 2 to take a 3-0 lead. However in the top of the 6th the Royals would final get on the scoreboard... A single off the bat of Matt Haver plated Brian Duffy with the Royals first run of the game and World Series. From there the dam cracked a bit for the Boys in Blue as Griffith reached base with a single of his own and with 2 on and 2 outs Ben Ailes connected with his first home run of the season, which couldn't have come at a better time. The Royals took a 4-3 lead in this pivotal winner-take-all game. In the bottom of the 6th Griffith handled Woodpecker hitters to preserved the lead. In the top of the 7th, the Royals threatened again to plate a few runs, but tough defense from the Woodpeckers turned a crucial 6-4-3 to end the inning and Royals threat. From there the Woodpeckers cashed in on the Royals, a mis-placed ball in the field allowed the tieing run to reach base and later score on a fielders choice. However that run was a mute point as the Royals were unable to score again in the 8th and 9th, and the Woodpeckers capped off the game and the season with a walk-off 2-run homerun to take home a 4th title for Woody's boys in a 6-4 victory.

Both teams played their best in this classic series. Those in attendance for both games will truly remember the see-saw battle of that exciting second game... Those who missed out or had to *leave* :( will have to live through the stories of those that lived the game!! :) Great day for both teams, for the Boys in Blue, it was an exciting run. Enjoy the off-season and we'll give it a run again next year.

Thanks everyone for your support and contribution to the team this season,
The Skipperimage

Official 2006 Water Bottle Count

Posted by Kettering Royals at Sep 17, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The results are in!! :) I had to look through the books to dig up the count, but I knew it was something people are always curious about so I did a little research to see what I could find. Now the results are a little skewed because we didn't actually have the bottles to distribute at our last 3 games, so I just added those games to the person that actually still had the bottles!! Now onto the results:

Ben Ailes 1
Nick Biron 1
Chad Campbell 2
TJ Dean 5
Brian Duffy 1
Mark Franklin 1
Jason Griffith 2
Ryan Hall 3
Matt Haver 2
Eric Jameson 1
Dan Losito 2

Royals Reach Playoff Finals...

Posted by Kettering Royals at Sep 10, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
For the first time in MVABL Royals history, the Boys in Blue have made it to the big dance where they look to repeat the same performance the BIG club had 21 years ago!!

The Royals took the field yesterday in their Quarterfinal game against the Kettering Outlaws, a team that ended their 2005 season in the playoffs. Rookie Brian Duffy got the nod from the Skipper for the start. Battling hay fever and Outlaw batters, Duffy went 4 strong innings, only allowing 4 runs to pickup the win. At the plate the Boys in Blue would send 50 batters to the plate knocking out 25 hits on the day. Up 7-4 when Duffy left the game, southpaw junk-baller Dan Losito took the hill in relief. Dan gave the team 3 strong innings recording 5 K's in his appearance on the hill. Former Bronson Arroyo look-alike Andrew "OD" O'Donnell came in to close out the day. OD worked 2 scoreless innings as the team played solid defense behind each of the 3 hurlers on the day.

Game 2 on the day for the Royals pitted them against the Attack Mules, fresh off their surprising upset victory over the Ohio Woodpeckers. Rookie Nick Biron got the start for the Royals in game 2, and the Attack Mules were able to pickup 4 runs over the first 3 innings on some solid hitting. As Biron entered the dugout in the middle of the third down 4-0 he looked to his team for some support, and they would answer his plea. The Royals would send 12 batters to the plate and score 6 runs off 7 hits, 2 HBP, and 1 SAC. Up 6-4 Biron worked quickly through the top of the fourth inning to get the Royals back to the plate where the Boys in Blue picked it right back up where they left off. The Royals were able to score a pair of insurance runs off Franklin and Griffith knocks. From there the offense on both sides would be blanked for the rest of the game. As each team would threaten, defense and pitching would prevail. For the Royals Biron would go 6 strong innings only allowing the 4 runs (2 ER) and fanning 13 before he would hand the ball off to veteran Jason Griffith. Griffith took the ball from Biron and continued to roll only allowing 1 hit over the final 3 innings and recording 4 K's himself.

On the day the Royals played well as a team in the field and at the plate, and their reward is their first trip to the MVABL World Series finale on September 24th where they will face off against either the Outlaws, Woodpeckers, or Attack Mules. Mark your calendars now to attend this league finale as I'm sure it will be a day filled with great baseball by all clubs.imageimage
