Games will be played at Rockwood Field , Home of Jesse Burkett Softball
For the first time since 1964, Massachusetts will host an East Regional Tournament. The 2007 Senior League Softball East Region Tournament has a new home - Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Senior League Softball East Regional Tournament was previously played and hosted the past two years in Easton, Maryland (Maryland District 6). However, after long consideration, Maryland District 6 informed our staff that they would no longer be willing or able to host such a high level and profile tournament. Hence, open bidding was permitted to all of the East Region District Administrators to allow them, if interested, to submit a proposal to host the tournament beginning in 2007.
A total of six proposals were submitted from District Administrators and local leagues expressing and outlining their intent to host the tournament. Multiple proposals were submitted by the states of Connecticut and Maryland along with proposals from New Jersey and Massachusetts.
After long review and consideration, the tournament was awarded to Doug Hannam, Massachusetts District 4 Administrator and the Jesse Burkett Little League. All of the proposals were very detailed, excellently thought out and would have been very successful in any location. However, with the committment from the Massachusetts District 4 Administrator, District Staff, Jesse Burkett Little League, the City of Worcester, the Massachusetts State of District Administrator Association and the Massachusetts State Government, Worcester was the exceptional location for the 2007 East Region Senior League Softball Tournament.
I sincerely thank all of the District Administrators and local leagues that submitted proposals to host this tournament and commend all of you on an excellent job.
I would also like to thank the following individuals for their extreme efforts, planning and commitment to this tournament:
Doug Hannam - MA 4 District Administrator
Massachusetts District 4 Staff
Massachusetts District 4 Local Leagues
Jesse Burkett Little League
Ms. Harriet Chandler - Massachusetts State Senator (Worcester District)
Mr. Robert Spellane - State Representative
Mr. Timothy Murray - Mayor and Massachusetts Lt. Governor
Mr. Michael O'Brien - Worcester City Manager
Mr. Rob Antonelli - Worcester Parks Commissioner
Mr. George Berardi - Massachusetts State Director and MA 13 District Administrator
Worcester City Council Members
Worcester Parks and Recreation Commission
Massachusetts State Delegation Members
Once again, congratulations are extended to Doug and all of the individuals who have made this possible and Worcester the new home of the 2007 Senior League Softball East Region Tournament. The East Region looks ahead to a very bright future and many years for the progress, growth and development of this particular tournament within the City of Worcester along with an even stronger partnership with Little League Baseball and Softball.
