Facing the 90 degree heat, Sorcerer took another step forward in the winners bracket of the Regional Tournament with a 6-2 win over the San Jose Lady Sharks - Piper. Although Sorcerer continued to score runs, there were no big hits in the game. Singles, a couple of doubles, and some errors by the opposition contributed to the victory.
In the third game of regional competition, Sorcerer faced the So Cal Pumas, a well-coached, short-ball team with excellent defense. The first run of the game came as Emily Allard scored when Maya Burns hit a hard ground ball down the first base line, following a walk and a sacrifice bunt by Kasey Tydingco that put Emily on second base. The Pumas returned with a run in the top of the second inning following a similar script. Outstanding pitching from Michelle Gascoigne and effective defensive plays from Emily Allard, Jordan Wallace, Natasha Hawkins, Tiffany Dueck, and Ashley Rose kept the game at 1 to 1 until the Sorcerer bats warmed up again. Then, after loading the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning with no outs, Jordan Wallace hit a beautiful ball down the first base line to score two runs. Maya Burns following with a hard grounder to the right side of the field, getting an out, but enabling another run to score. Maya has 12 hits in the last 14 at bats. Stephanie Bregante entered mid-game to relieve Michelle and proceeded to strike out the next three batters. Sorcerer maintained excellent defense and closed the game after 5 and a half innings of play.
Sorcerer opened play at the 2007 Pacific Coast Region 14 National Qualifier today at 6 PM game with an 11-1 victory over the Berkeley Bears. In the first inning, Emily Allard bunted the ball to get on base. Emily stole 2nd base then Kasey Tydingco executed a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Emily to 3rd. Jordan Wallace completed the objective with a hard hit ground ball to the shortstop to score the run. In the top of the second inning, Sorcerer committed two errors, a balk, and hit a runner with a pitch to help the Bears to score their first and only run. Putting an end to the errors and motivating the offense, Maya Burns led off the second inning with a home run over the center field fence, her first home run of the season. Directly following Maya at bat was Whitney Shaw, who also crushed a home run over the center field fence, her second of the season. Not to be outdone by her power hitting teammates, Jordan Wallace hit a deep bomb over the left field fence, her fourth home run of the season. Following this display of hitting, the Berkeley Bears changed pitchers. Shenise Cox singled up the middle. Sizing up the new pitcher Maya, Maya Burns returned to the plate and crushed another pitch over the center field fence, a two-run homer, her second home run of the game and of the season. Substituting for Shenise Cox for one at bat, Brooke Coloma took full advantage of the situation as she hit a home run over the left field fence, her first of the season. Following Brooke, and facing yet another pitcher, Maya Burns returned to the plate. As a crowd of former teammates on the Norcal Shockers and players from the Sorcerer Gold - Pete team watched, Maya hit yet another bomb to the center field that bounced off of the top of the 8" high fence, allowing Maya only a double and narrowly missing a third consecutive home run. Of note, Maya has 9 hits in her last 10 at bats. In the final innings, Sorcerer continued to score again and again, producing a total 11 runs while allowing only one. Shenise Cox Strikes a Southern Belle Pose Following her back-to-back homeruns, normally reserved Shenise Cox expresses a bit of herself as she strikes a Southern Belle pose following the game.
Sorcerer started the weekend a little slow on Saturday scoring only 4 runs in 2 games, but Sunday Sorcerer was back to normal scoring 28 runs in 3 games. Shenise Cox started the slugfest during the first game on Sunday with a beautiful homerun to deep right center field. Whitney Shaw then delivered another homerun during the very next at bat. But Shenise was not to be outdone, for in her next at bat she delivered yet another homerun to seal what turned into a 12-0 victory over the competition.

On Sunday Katie Fleury got her back cracking, uhhh, literally. Demonstrating the power of a 4-hitter, Fluery snapped her bat in two pieces as she gave a powerful swing at an inside fastball.

Refusing to allow her teammates to have all the fun, Jordan Wallace crushed two monster blasts to left field. With fences some 350 ft away, Jordan crossed the plate before the ball could be thrown into the infield!

And repeating her performance of two weeks ago in Stockton, Maya Burns demonstrated her own power hitting, getting 6 hits in 7 at bats on Sunday with a sequence of ground balls that found gaps or were simply toooo hot to handle.

In all, Sorcerer scored 32 runs, won 4 games, and gave up 1 in the Las Vegas JO Classic Showcase.

Sorcerer has scored a total on 91 runs in 18 games. Sorcerer now has 14 wins and 4 losses in summer competition.
