In Remembrance of Delmar Himango

Posted by Derrick Burns at Apr 5, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Members of the softball community, friends of Del's and of Sorcerer Softball:

Delmar Himango As many of your have heard, Del passed away early yesterday afternoon, following a long battle with cancer and other ailments. He was 59.

He is survived by his wife Chris, daughters Tiffany and Shannon, and three grandchildren. We offer his family our thoughts and prayers during their period of loss.

Del was passionate about softball and about helping kids, as he truly enjoyed working with young people. It is no mystery that so many kids responded well to his coaching as they could see that he was genuine in his interest in them as players and individuals and that he truly loved the sport.

As his business partner and friend, I will miss him very much. He was at once intelligent, fun loving, irrascible, caring, stubborn, colorful, supportive, eccentric, generous, lovable and iconoclastic. I don't know that any of us who knew him, played with him, coached with him, or were taught by him will ever again meet anyone else like him.

When I think about our years together at Sorcerer Softball Academy, I admire and appreciate Del for taking the knowledge he possessed that made him an outstanding pitcher, and so effectively passing that on, along with large doses of love for the game, to his hundreds of students. He truly touched the lives of many young people and made our sport much better by his interest and participation.
