Sorcerer Hannah Williams Throw 3-Hitter
Junior Hannah Williams threw a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as Freedom-Oakley (20-1, 13-0), The Chronicle's No. 3-ranked softball team, came within one win of clinching the Bay Valley League title with a 5-0 victory over visiting Pittsburg (5-15, 4-9) on Tuesday.
"I was on the team with my sister (Amanda) when we won NCS, and now it's important we show we can do it ourselves. That's the goal - win NCS," said Williams, who has verbally committed to Fresno State.
Besides her pitching performance, Williams had an RBI single in the first inning, and was walked and hit by a pitch to reach base in all three plate appearances, raising her average to .425 for the Falcons.
Sorcerer Courtney Moore Named Player of the Week in Both Oakland Tribune and Contra Costa Times

In most dominating fashion Courtney Moore turned in one of the best offensive performances this year in the BSAL in a four game stretch. The Mississippi State bound senior went an impressive 9 for 11 with 5 homeruns including a grand slam. She finished the week with 12 RBI’s and 5 stolen bases in 4 games against two of the top three teams in the BSAL.
Moore is currently batting .566 in BSAL play and is among the tops in the league in nearly all offensive categories. In a double header against Piedmont High school she was a combined 2 for 3 with a two run shot off former BSAL MVP Mina Duffy that traveled well over the wall in left center field at Piedmont High. She then followed that up on Wednesday with a 4 for 5 day against St. Joseph’s Alameda where she hit a 3 run homer and a grand slam in a BSAL victory for the Panthers. Keeping with her torrid pace she turned in another strong offensive performance the next day against the top team in the BSAL, the Albany High Cougars who are currently undefeated in league play and only have one lost overall on the season, Moore went 3 for 3 with a two run homerun and a solo shot in a hard fought loss to the Cougars.
Courtney closes out her BSAL high school career with two games this week and a final game next Wednesday against BSAL power house St. Patrick’s which will be Senior Day for the Panthers. Courtney will play her summer ball under Coach Phil Mumma with the Sorcerer Softball Club after which she will be moving on to play Division I softball in the SEC(South Eastern Conference) for Coach Jay Miller and the Mississippi State University Bulldogs in the fall.
Sorcerer Michelle Gascoigne Throws No-Hitter for Benicia
Michelle Gascoigne tossed a no-hitter against visiting Vallejo for a 9-0 victory in a Solano County Athletic Conference matchup on Monday.
Gascoigne also racked up 17 strikeouts, against just one walk. Brianna Hammond went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Monica Schroll went 2-for-4 with one run for Benicia.
Alum News Notes
Cal frosh outfielder/pitcher Valerie Arioto doubled with two outs in the seventh for an April 30 walk-off win over U.C. Davis. It was Val's second walk-off double of the season, the first occurring in a 3-2 conference win over Oregon.
The Cal-U.C. Davis game featured six former Sorcerers - for Cal, Arioto and pitcher Marissa Drewrey (both Sorcerer Gold - Phil), along with infielders Lauren Bauer and Carrie Arth (both Sorcerer Gold - Pete), competing agains Aggies Julie Stauder and Sarah O'Neill (Sorcerer Gold - Phil). Drewrey got the win, firing a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts, raising her record to 25-13. It was Marissa's ninth game with 10 or more strikeouts.
Arioto is Cal's second leading hitter at .330 and leads the team with 59 hits, 14 doubles, four triples, 39 walks and an on-base percentage of .447. Stauder ('02-'05) leads Davis at .303 with 31 runs and an OBP of .412. O'Neill ('03-'05), who is featured on the cover of the Aggies' media guide, is hitting .255 and is second in homers with four, slugging at .418 and OBP at .362.
Katie Fleury ('06-'07) continues her solid season as Notre Dame 's shortstop, hitting .279 and leading the Fighting Irish with 37 runs and 27 walks. She is 10 for 10 in steals.Sorcerer Registration Form
