EAGLES MOVING ON AND NORTH

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Jul 10, 2018 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Senior, Eric McCabe is heading north of the border to play with the Grey Highlands Hawks of the CPJL (Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League) for the 2018-2019 season. A four year standout for the Eagles, McCabe hopes playing juniors will add to his hockey resume and improve his prospects for playing college hockey.  Click on above headline for more info and recent article on McCabe.

Trumbull's leading scorer, Matt Mocker, will be continuing his education and hockey career at ECSU next year. Mocker will join a long list of Eagles (Cory Watson, Sean Kennedy, Max Walker, Charles Genster, Sam Watson and Jake Liebowitz) that have gone on to play for the Warriors.

The team's academic leader, Will Prezioso, will be heading to Providence College in the fall.

Leo Thanasoulis is hoping to latch onto an area junior/midget team while taking classes locally.

Good luck to all out seniors!

EAGLES FALL TO 3-5-0 WITH LOSS TO CADETS

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Jan 15, 2018 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Eagles generated plenty of offense and shots as they took on their cross town rivals, the St Joe's Cadets.  Trumbull had over fifty shots (nearly double their opponent) but were only able to find the back of the net once as Cadet goalie, Chris Higgins lead St Joe's to a 3-1 FCIAC win.  Trumbull goalie, Alex Tsymbaluk also played well for the Eagles but didn't get the goal support he needed to deliver a victory.  Alex Chopskie scored the lone Trumbull goal.

HEUCHLING & SWIFT MEMORIAL CLASSIC CHAMPS!

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Jan 1, 2018 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

This past weekend, the Trumbull boys ice hockey team participated in and won the Heuchling & Swift Memorial Hockey Classic in New Hampshire.

The tournament has been hosted by Oyster River HS for the past six years in honor of two former players, Todd Heuchling and Brian Swift that passed away far too early.  All games were played at the Whittemore Center Arena on the campus of the University of New Hampshire.

The Eagles lost the first game 4-3 to Portsmouth/Newmarket HS (NH) but rebounded with an 8-1 win over Spaulding HS (NH) opening the door for them to play Oyster River (NH) in the championship.  The host team was undefeated, beating Martha's Vinyard HS (MA) 6-1 and York HS (ME) 5-0.

The Eagles played progressively better as the tournament went on saving their best hockey for the final.  Senior captain, Matt Mocker led the Eagles to a 5-2 victory in front of some solid goaltending from Alex Tsymbaluk (so) and Leo Thanasoulis (sr).  Mocker led all THS skaters with a tournament high 6 goals and 3 assists and was on an absolute mission in the final with 2 goals and 2 helpers.  The Eagles also received solid contributions from a number of under classmen.  Junior, Alex Jackel had 2 goals and 4 assists, Manny Bellios (so) added 4 goals, freshmen Jack McLean (2g & 1a) and Owen Finnegan (1g a& 2a) each had three points.

It was the first time the boys ice hockey team has participated in an out of state tournament.  In addition to skating in one of HockeyEast's premier arenas, the Eagles got a chance to speak UNH Club Hockey Coach, Stephen McIsaac, about educational and hockey opportunities beyond high school. It was a great weekend of hockey and a wonderful experience for the young Trumbull Eagles.
