Trumbull Eagles Hockey

The Trumbull Eagles will recognize their seniors this Wednesday as they host Staples HS at The Rinks at Shelton. Come support seniors Marco Minopoli, Manny Bellios, Nick Letizia, Donny Ryan, Collin Mallozzi and Alex Tsymbalyuk.

Marco Minopoli earns his first POW of the season with a strong performance against the Ridgefield Tigers. The senior defenseman was solid defensively while adding five shots on net. The captain is easily the Eagles’ most physical player leading the team in hits with 87 and was listed on Twitter as a member of the All FIAC “Grind” Team. Of late, he has been adding to the offense and currently leads all defensemen in points (8 = 2g + 6a) and shots on net with 43.

The Eagles improved their record to 8-6-0 and secured a spot in the CIAC Tournament with a 3-1 win over the Norwalk Bears. Grayson Chopski made 31 saves and received goal support from Jack McLean (2) and Collin Mallozzi. John Guererra had two assists while Jack Cullen, Owen Finnegan, Nick Letizia and Collin Franzen all had helpers of their own.

Senior, Alex Tsymbalyuk earns his second POW award of the season with rock solid outings against two tough D1 FCIAC opponents. “Tsymba” had 33 saves against the Fairfield Co-op and held them to two goals followed by a 37 save performance against top ranked New Canaan who he held to three goals. Trumbull’s starter has put the Eagles in a position to win every game and has emerged as one of the top D2 goaltenders in the state.

Peter Antoniou figured in on three of the four goals scored by THS as they bested North Branford 4-3 Saturday afternoon. The sophomore scored a power play goal and added two assists to the score sheet. The feisty center is a hard worker with skill and plenty of grit.
