United fall to Voodoo Magic

Big Bamboo Voodoo-3 United-0 (click for archive report) The Big Bamboo Voodoo got their season off to an excellent start with an impressive 3-0 victory over United. The result is likely to raise a few eyebrows across the SIFL. The early morning kick off had looked to have taken its toll with a couple of late withdrawals from the squad and more than one player feelings the effects of the night before. Any worries were soon dispelled however with the Voodoo immediately taking the game to the opposition. The Voodoo moved the ball around well in the early stages creating opportunities, whilst looking solid defensively. After some heavy pressure on the Utd goal the Voodoo made a breakthrough with Fernando Sores moving onto a through ball which he cooly took around the keeper only to see his shot seemingly handled on the line by the Utd defense. There was some confusion at first with the referee needing to consult his linesman, however he duly pointed to the spot and up stepped Rick Howard to take the penalty. This however turned out to be a moment he would rather forget (but we won’t let that happen will we) as he skied the ball over the bar. The reaction however was positive and just seemed to further motivate the team. It was not long before the Voodoo got the goal they had deserved with an excellent deep cross finding Chris Kincaid at the back post where he put the ball home. Seconds later the half-time whistle was blown. The Voodoo didn’t let up in the second half and although Utd saw more of the ball than they had previously it was the Voodoo that used it better. The defense continued to keep the opposition at bay with Mark Suchy always on hand if anything did break through. The team was defending well from the front with Rob Huhges refusing to let the Utd defense settle on the ball. He later got the goal that his hard work deserved as the Voodoo started to make some changes for tired legs. Chris Kincaid wrapped up the three points with an effort that looped over the goal keepers head. There was some speculation as to the intent, however the player himself insists that not only was it intentional but he also predicted the whole thing during the half time interval! With some of the United players heads going down Dan Huhges stepped up to provide them with some comical relief as he managed to force his open goal over the crossbar after Rob Huhges had worked well to play the ball across the six yard box for him. Even Chris Huhges was seen to have a smile on his face at the final whistle as he had secured what should be the first of many cleans sheets. Manager Sean Capes however was keen to downplay the victory stating that the team can and will do better! Man of the Match - Rob Hughes
