The Panthers kicked off the WWBA 16U event with a solid 5-2 victory over the Diamond Jacks from New Jersey. Starting pitcher; Nick Silva pitched 5 solid innings; giving up 1 run off of 2 hits while striking out 3. Jesse Brewer shut down a bases loaded threat to earn a save in the game.

The Panthers executed to score 5 runs off of only 4 hits. Cats getting hits were Blaine Lewis (2B); Kyle Whitman; Brett Lang and Zach Lax.

Winning Pitcher: Kyle Whitman

The Panthers jumped ahead in the first inning off a grand slam home run from LF Blaine Lewis. Blaine drove a pitch deep over the left field fence for the base clearer. The Cats tacked on more in the second highlighted by a bases loaded double off the top of the fence by 1B Taylor Reeves. CF Bradely Morton finished the game 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs.

The defense turned in solid play with RF Xander Maddox chasing down a gap drive to end a mid game threat. Jackson Campana picked a couple of wild throws at 1B and 3B David Daniels had 5 assists in the game including a tough high chopper.

Losing Pitcher: Jesse Brewer

The Panthers fell behind in the first 0-4 and could only hold their own from that point in a 2-6 loss to the Cyclones. The Clones pitcher shut down the Cats bats with the exception of Kyle Whitman going 2 for 3 and David Daniels hitting a double.

Game 4

The Panthers bats woke up in game 4 and the Cats jumped out to an early 7-0 led and won in a run rule over the Aces. Winning pitcher Scott Leonard gave up a hit while striking out 4 in 2.66 innings of relief. Leading hitters were Kyle Whitman 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs; Bradley Morton 1-2 with 2 RBIs and Jake Fincher 2-3 with an RBI.

Winning Pitcher: Nick Silva

The Panthers jumped ahead 5-0 in the first and tacked on 4 runs in the second to take a commanding lead on the Cardinals. Starting pitcher; Nick Silva pitched 5 solid innings; giving up 3 off of 6 hits while striking out 3. Kyle Whitman closed the game out with 2 strike outs in 2 innings of work. Jake Fincher and Blaine Lewis each finished 3 for 3 to lead the offense. Bull Barber and David Daniels each collected 2 hits.

Winning Pitcher: Tyler McCarthy

3B David Daniels led the game off with a home run and the Panther bats stayed hot versus a hard throwing Scorpion pitcher. LF Blaine Lewis went 3 for 3 in the game including a HR and a 2B off the fence to lead the offense. Elliott Fowler hit a game ending Grand Slam HR to give the Cats 3 for the game. Jake Fincher had two hits in the game.

The 2011 Panthers finished the week 5-1.

Leading Hitters:  Jake Watson 2-3; 3 RBI.  Rafael Gonzalez 2-2; 2 RBI. Josh Greene 1-1; 2B/SAC.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and beat the Pats in a five inning run rule game to open the WWBA 17U event. The Panther defense shut down any Patriot efforts with big plays by 2B; Jake Fincher and 3B Logan Ratledge.

Leading Hitters: Ty Linton 1-2; HR. Brian Holberton 1-2. Josh Greene 1-2. Logan Ratledge 1-2; RBI.

Logan Ratledge created a run with a bunt single that scored the Cats initial run and created their second on a throwing error. Ty Linton hit a long HR for what turned out to be the winning run and the Panther defense played their second straight errorless game.

Starting pitcher Kurt Semeniuk pitched 5 solid innings before being relieved by Zac Westcott in the 6th. Zac closed the game out for a save.

Leading Hitters: Ty Linton (Charlotte Christian/UNC) 3-4; GSHR. Eric Brenk (Concord) 2-2; 2 RS. Josh Greene (York) 1-1; SAC.

The Panthers spotted the Bombers 3 runs and came roaring back with a 9 run 3rd and 4th inning which featured a grand slam HR by Ty Linton. Patrick McMahon came in the game in relief and held the Bombers scoreless. Alex Tomasovich pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th including striking out 3 in a row in the last.

Leading Hitters: Jake Watson 2-3; RBI. Josh Greene 2-3; 3B, 4 RBI. Tyler Alberts 2-3.

 Starting pitcher Zac Westcott pitched solid into the 5th and the Panthers came back after being down 0-2 to win versus the Texans.

Leading Hitters: Brian Holberton 2-3; 2B, 4 RBI. Ty Linton 2-3.

Jesse Brewer shut down Tampa and the Panthers came back from a 3-5 deficit to win and advance to the Championship round of 32.

Starting pitcher Kyle Kessler took a no hitter into the seventh and exited the game after a lead off single. The Panther bullpen could not close the door and the Bandits put 7 on the board for the win.

 

2010 SC Panther JAKE WATSON committed to attend school and play baseball for the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA. Jake will join the Gamecocks following his senior year at Charlotte Christian where he will help lead the 2009 Nationally ranked high school team in their defense of the NCISAA State 3A title.

Congratulations to Jake and the Watson family.

JUSTIN SETZER SIGNS WITH PRESBYTERIAN

2009 SC Panther JUSTIN SETZER has signed to attend school and play baseball at PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE. Justin will join the Blue Hose this fall. Justin attended high school at Marvin Ridge where he was a two time All Conference player.

Congratulations to Justin; his parents Mark and Terri and brother Brandon.

PERFECT GAME WWBA 18U

The Perfect Game World Wood Bat 18U Nationals in East Cobb, Georgia kicked off this week. The SC Panthers 2009 team started the event with a 8-0 win over the Akedma Yankees from Indiana.

Game 1

Winning Pitcher: Sean Pope

Leading Hitters: Tyler Tewell 3-4; 3B. Tyler Miller 2-4. T.J. Estes 2-3. Ty Linton 1-3; HR, 3 RBI.

Luke Bard; Sean Pope and Scott Shipman threw a shut out to lead the Cats to a game one victory over Akadema. Ty Linton blew the close game open with a huge 3 run homer to the top of the pines in LCF.

Florida Bombers Blue Sox  1.......................1......4......2

Winning Pitcher: Corey Roberts   4 IP; 1 H; 7 K

Corey Roberts shut down the Blue Sox and T.J. Estes closed the door striking out 5 in 3 innings to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 record in pool play.

Richie Shaffer hit a 2 run bomb as well as a ground rule double to help lead a 8 hit attack. Shane Basen and Ty Linton hit triples. Rafael Gonzalez and C.A. Clayton had RBI doubles.

Home Plate Chili Dogs 0 ........................0.......3......1

Winning Pitcher: Gaither Bumgardner  7IP; 3 H; 9K

Gaither Bumgardner pitched a complete game gem to blank the Chili Dogs. The Panthers lead Pool G with a 3-0 record only allowing one run in three games.

Sean Pope squeezed home pinch runner T.J. Estes. Estes was moved to third base on a hit and run by Shane Basen at the plate. Tyler Zupcic had the other hit for the Panthers. 

 Game 4

SC Panthers  win game 4 advancing assuring advancement to mthe round of 32. Details to follow.

The Panthers won game 5 to complete a 5-0 record in pool play and advance to the Championship Round of 32.

In Championship play the Cats lost 2-6 to the ABD Bulldogs.
