JAKE COCHRANE COMMITS TO EMBRY-RIDDLE

SCP 2012 JAKE COCHRANE has committed to attend school and play baseball at EMBRY-RIDDLE UNIVERSITY. Jake will join the Eagles following his senior year at North Lincoln High School. Embry-Riddle is located in Daytona Beach, Florida and is a renowned aeronautical school. The Eagles are the NAIA Sun Conference defending champions and have advanced to the NAIA World Series each of the past 4 seasons.

Congratulations to Jake; his parents Joel and Terri and brother Paul.

PAYDEN HONEYCUTT COMMITS TO NAVAL ACADEMY

SCP 2012 PAYDEN HONEYCUTT; Weddington High School has committed to attend college and play baseball at the NAVAL ACADEMY. Payden will join the Midshipmen following his senior year at Weddington where he will help lead the Warriors this spring.

Congratulations to Payden; his parents Daniel and Beth and brother Taylor.

PERFECT GAME WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS / JUPITER

The SCP 2012 completed their season with a 3-1 record at the Perfect Game World Championships in Jupiter, Florida. The Cat pitchers were dominant and the defense played well in giving up only 3 runs in four games of pool play which was the second least in the tournament. The offense never got untracked for the Panthers and in the team's lone loss to the Mizuno Puerto Ricans we were no hit.

Winning pitcher Ty Buttrey hit 94 on the radar guns and pitched 5 innings of 1 hit baseball to get the Panthers off to a fast start with a 5-1 victory. Ty and catcher Andrew MacLatchie were featured on the PG video of day 2 morning action listed on the PG web site. MIF Kirk Morgan got the team off to a fast start with a first pitch of the game double and subsequent run scored.

Winning Pitcher: Ty Buttrey (8-1)  5IP; 1H; 3K; 0R. Save: Michael Herbert (5) 2IP; 2H; 2K; 1R.

Leading Hitters: Martin Koon 2-3 (RBI). Kirk Morgan 1-3 (2B). Ty Buttrey 1-3 (RS).

Royals Scout Team       0                               0.....2.....0

Hitting 91 on the PG radar guns Trent Thornton shut out the pre tournament pool favorite Royals Scout Team with a complete game victory. He gave up 2 hits while striking out 9 and walking 0. With the victory Trent took his season record to 11-0 which set an SCP single season record for number of wins without a loss. 1B Kyle Whitman led off the third with a single and came around to score the only run needed on a Colby Barnette RBI single. 

Winning Pitcher: Trent Thornton (11-0)  7IP; 2H; 9K; 0R.

Leading Hitters: Kirk Morgan 1-2. Kyle Whitman 1-3. Colby Barnette 1-3 (RBI). 

Game 3

Mizuno Puerto Rico            2                           2.....3.....0

The Panthers were no hit for the first time in SCP history by the Pool A winners Mizuno Puerto Rico. Cat starting pitcher Brody Koerner matched the Mizuno arms through the fourth when they capitalized on an infield single; base on balls and the only hard hit of the game to take a 2-0 lead which would hold up for the victory. Koerner struck out 8 for a career total of 222 Ks; which broke the all time SCP career record. Brad Stone finished the game for the Panthers with 2 innings of no hit ball while hitting 88 on the PG radar guns.

Losing Pitcher: Brody Koerner (5-1)  5IP; 3H; 8K; 2R.

Game 4

Cameron Tekker; Brian Donovan and Jake Cochrane combined for a shut out to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 pool record and a win in the final SCP 2012 game. SCP 2013 Kirk Morgan went 2-2 with 4 stolen bases to help lead the offense and SCP 2014 Ryder Ryan drove in 3 Panther runs.

Winning Pitcher: Cameron Tekker (7-3) 3.33IP; 2H; 4K; 0R. Save: Jake Cochrane (2) 2IP; 0H; 4K; 0R.

Leading Hitters: Kirk Morgan 2-2. Ryder Ryan 1-3 (3 RBIs). John Mangum 1-2. Jacob Rothman 1-3.

 

The SCP 2012 team finished the season 45-17-4 and a two year Panther record of 93-32-9.

PERFECT GAME WORLD WOOD BAT UNDERCLASS

SCP  2013 - ELITE 8

After sweeping pool play with a 3-0 record the SCP 2013s entered championship play as the tournaments #8 seed out of 144 teams. The Junior Cats advanced to the round of eight with victories over the Houston Heat and the East Cobb Astros before losing in a hard fought final 8 to the East Cobb Braves. The Panthers will wrap up their season next weekend in Raleigh at North Carolina State having finished in the top 8 in the three major national tournaments they competed in this season; USA Nationals (3rd); Perfect Game 16U (Final 8) and Perfect Game Underclass (Final 8) in addition to winning the USA 16U Cup Championship.

Kirk Morgan sets an all time SCP single season record for saves with 7.

Game 4  - Round of 32

Alexander Bostic pitched a complete game No Hitter; striking out 9 batters to lead the Cats to a round of 32 victory over the Houston Heat.

Game 5  - Round of 16

Bailey Ober pitched a complete game One Hitter to lead the Panthers to a round of 16 vicory over the East Cobb Astros. Thomas Nantz  drilled a single in the Cats two run 3rd to give the team all the runs they would need.

The Panthers were unable to take advantage of early base runners and dropped a close game to the East Cobb Braves getting shut out for only the second time all season.

SCP  2014 - SWEET 16

The Rookie SC Panthers proved they will be a factor in years to come advancing to the championship rounds after sweeping their pool play games as the number 7 seed (one ahead of their sister 13 team) in the 144 team field.

Game 1

Starting pitcher Logan Beehler had to leave the game early due to a line up situation having given up 0 runs. Nick Contafio completed the shut out with 5 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Tommy DeJuneas drove in all 3 Panther runs.

Game 2

Doug Norman (4-0) picked up his fourth Panther win with a dominating outing on the mound. Grant Wentzel earned his 3rd Save of the season to close out the game. Logan Beehler and Ryder Ryan each collected 2 hits to lead the offense.

Game 3

Ryan Ross pitched an outstanding game over the Tri State Arsenal with 6 innings of shut out work. Ryder Ryan closed the game in the seventh for the second Panther shut out in pool play. The Panthers scored the only run they needed when Tommy DeJuneas stole third and scored on an error.

Brandon Casas picked up the Win and Logan Beehler the Save to lead the Panthers to the Sweet 16. Ryder Ryan bombed a HR and double to lead the offense in the victory.

The Panthers lost their first game of the year after reeling off 14 wins in a row in a tie breaker loss to the East Cobb Astros White in the Round of 16.

COLBY BARNETTE COMMITS TO TAR HEELS

2013 COLBY BARNETTE - Piedmont High School has committed to attend college and play baseball at the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA. Colby will join the Tar Heels following his high school career at Piedmont.

Congratulations to Colby; his parents Steve and Kim and brother Trevor.
