LoCo Opens in JPD Spring Tourney at 9:30am

Lumber Company's first game Saturday, April 26th, in this weekend's Joliet Spring Training Tournamnet is at 9:30am on field #6. Lumber Company received a first round bye and plays the winner of Dreams and Friscia. A win would give the LoCo an 11:30 game #2. There are 23 teams in this weekend's action. Lumber Co. takes 4th in Primetime Tourney

Lumber Company began their 2003 season playing in the Primetime Tournament in Joliet, IL. Lumber Co. finished the tournament 4-2, good for 4th place out of 21 teams. Lumber Co. opened the tournament with a 19-4 win against Cassidys in 3 innings by virtue of the 15 run rule. The LoCo started out on fire scoring 18 runs in their half of the first inning. That set the tone for the entire game. Leading the LoCo with 3 hits were Bret Petersen (RF), Brad Walsh (1B), Ryan Nurczyk (RC) and Jim Lesnik (2B). Bob Munday (3B) homered and drove in 3 runs. In game 2 Lumber Co. was matched up with Truck-It. LoCo kept rolling with a 13-7 victory. The LoCo got 2 hits from 6 different players. Joel Filas (LC) homered and Ryan Nurczyk drove in 3 runs. In game 3 LoCo won in extra innings, beating Swingers by a score of 20-16 in 8 innings. LoCo received 5 hits from Matt Staab, 4 from Brett Petersen and 3 from Brad Walsh, Bob Munday, Jeff Behun (R) and Kenny Wallace (P). One of Kenny Wallace's being a homerun. LoCo ended Saturday 3-0 and opened up at 7:00am Sunday morning with Chico's Bail Bonds. Chico's gave the Lumber Co. their first loss of the season, the final score was 15-13. LoCo received 3 hits a piece from Matt Wallace (SS), Bob Munday, Brett Petersen (1 HR) and Matt Staab. LoCo's 5th game of the tourney was against Joltin' Joe's. LoCo was losing this game 13-3 in the 3rd inning, but was able to battle back scoring 4 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th and 9 in the 6th to come away with the W, by a final of 17-14. Leading the LoCo was Brad Walsh with 4 hits, Scott Munday (C) and Bret Petersen added 3 hits each. LoCo's final game of the tourney was against their long time rival D'arcys, who had a whole new look for 2003 with several new players. D'arcy knock off the Lumber Co. by a final of 24-14. This game was back and forth most of the way with D'arcy up by a score of 16-14 in the 5th before scoring 8 unanswered runs to claim the victory. Matt Wallace homered and drove in 4 runs in the losing effort. Being early April and 30 degrees for most of the tournament LoCo was still able to average 16 runs per contest. The LoCo's top hitters on the weekend were Jim Lesnik, .857; Matt Staab, .789; Brad Walsh, .682; Bret Petersen, .667; Ken Wallace, .556; Matt Wallace, .522 and Bob Munday, .500. Lumber Company's next games will be in the Joliet Spring Training Tournament the weekend of April 26th and 27th.image
