Lumber Co. evened their record to 1-1 in the Joliet City tournament's Open division when they defeated Marino Const./Stone City/D'Arcy by a final score of 14-13. This contest was back and forth all night with the game tied going in to the bottom of the 7th inning. The Lumber Co. had the hammer and put it to good use in the bottom of the frame. With one out Kenny Wallace started the rally with a single. Bob Munday and Matt Staab followed suit each singling to load the bases. With one out a Jeff Behun sacrifice fly drove in the winning run giving the Lumber Co. the 14-13 victory. E.Boe had a huge night at the plate to lead the Lumber Co. attack going 3-4 with 3 HRs and 7 RBIs. Also having good nights at the plate for the LoCo were K.Wallace 3-3, 1 BB; M.Staab, 3-4; B.Munday, 2-4; R.Nurczyk, 2-4; B.Walsh, 2-4 and J.Filas 2-4. Lumber Company was defeated 11-10 by D'Arcy in their first round game in the Joliet City Tournament's Open division. In true rivalry fashion this game was back an forth the entire way. Lumber Company took the early 1-0 lead in the top off one keyed by a M.Wallace RBI single with 2 outs. However D'Arcy answered right back with 1 of their own in the bottom of the first. After shutting the Lumber Co. down in the second D'Arcy scored 5 more times to go up 6-1. After a scoreless third and forth inning Lumber Co. plated 6 runs with 2 outs in the 5th to take a 7-6 lead. Driving in runs in the fifth inning were S.Munday, J.Pool, J.Filas, E.Boe (2) and R.Nurczyk. However D'Arcy answered right back to score 3 runs in their half of the 5th to regain a 9-7 lead. Lumber Co. came right back in the top of the 6th scoring two runs on a B.Munday double to knot the game up at 9. D'Arcy again answered with a run in the bottom of the 6th to take a 10-9 lead putting the pressure on the LoCo to score in the 7th. With 2 outs in the top of the 7th J.Filas singled and then scored on an E.Boe RBI double, tying the game a 10. But it would not be the Loco's night as D'Arcy was able to push across 1 run in the bottom of the 7th to win the game by a final score of 11-10. Leading the LoCo attack was E.Boe 3-4, 2 2B and 3 RBIs; J.Filas 3-4, 1 RBI; M.Wallace 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI; J.Lesnik 2-3, J.Pool, 2-4, 1 RBI and B.Munday 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 RBIs. Lumber Company opens play in the Joliet City Tournament's Open Division on Monday, July 26th at 8:15pm on field #2 against long time rival D'Arcy. There are 7 teams in the Open Division bracket. Lumber Company went 2-2 in the Merrillville, IN USSSA "D" NIT good for a 5th place finish. LoCo opened the tourney with a bye, in their first game LoCo was matched up with Sunrise Dental out of Redford, MI. In a close game a tough Sunrise team knocked the LoCo off by a score of 10-7. In game number 2 the LoCo got the bats going in an impressive 13-1 win over Backdoor Lounge from Merrillville, IN. Lumber Company's third game had them matched up with Roman Art out of Merrillville, IN. Lumber Company won this game by a final of 10-6. LoCo's last game of the tourney was a 6-5 loss against GPT from Chester, IN. Leading the Lumber Co.'s offense over the weekend were B.Walsh, .800, 7 RBIs; J.Pool, .692, 4 RBIs; E.Boe, .667, 8 RBIs; M.Wallace, .545; J. Filas, .500 and R. Nurczyk, .500. Lumber Co. knocks off KAOS

In Thursday night JPD "B" league action Lumber Company knocked off a real tough KAOS team by a final score of 14-13. KAOS started off the scoring by putting up 4 runs in the top of the first. Lumber Co. answered right back plating 4 of their own runs, highlighted by a Ryan Nurczyk 2 run homerun. KAOS came right back scoring 1 in the second and 2 in the third to take a 3 run lead going in to the bottom of the 3rd. LoCo tied the score at 7 after 3 innings. KAOS was shut down in the 4th and Lumber Co. scored 6 runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 13-7 lead. An Eric Boe grand slam lead the charge in the 4th. Lumber Co. scored one more time in the 6th and KAOS was only able to push across 6 more runs over the last 3 innings giving the Lumber Co. the 14-13 victory. Leading the LoCo offensive attack was Eric Boe, 4-4, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs; Jake Pool, 4-4, 1 3B; Bob Munday, 3-3 and Matt Wallace, 2-3, 1 3B, 3 RBIs. Lumber Co.'s next game is Friday night at 9:30pm on field #3 against familiar foe KGB Softball (Uncle Richies). This game will be a tune-up for the weekend's NSA Super "D" NIT in Kankakee.image
