Lumber Company opened the 2007 season with a 2nd place finish in the 14 team Joliet Spring Training Cash Tournament on Saturday, April 21st. After a first round bye the Lumber Co. went 3-2 in route to their second place finish. For their efforts Lumber Co. earned $200. The scores of the Lumber Co. games were as follows. Game 1: Lumber Co. 20, Poor Boys 1 Game 2: Lumber Co. 18, Squad 8 Game 3: Ken's Beverage/Shockers 16, Lumber Co. 13 Game 4: Lumber Co. 20, Young Guns 15 Game 5: Ken's Beverage/Shockers 15, Lumber Co. 14 After opening with a bye the LoCo short gamed Poor Boys in 4 innings, the final was Lumber Co. 20, Poor Boys 1. In their 2nd game the Lumber Co. had a tough match-up drawing the Squad, who they 10 runned in 5 innings, with the final being LoCo 18, Squad 8. Lumber Co. then faced Ken's Beverage/Shockers in the winner's bracket championship game. Lumber Co. took a one run lead into the top of the seventh and had two outs in the inning before Ken's exploded for 5 runs to take a 4 run lead into the bottom of the 7th. The Lumber Co. could only muster one run in the bottom of the frame to fall by a final of Ken's 16, Lumber Co. 13 and a trip to the loser's bracket. Lumber Company would have to face a very tough Young Guns team to make it to the Championship game and a chance to get another crack at Ken's/Shockers. After trailing early the Lumber Co. bats woke up to defeat Young Guns by 5 runs, final score Lumber 20, Young Guns 15. In the Championship game against Ken's/Shockers the Lumber Co. again took a lead in to the top of the 7th innning, this time by 4 runs, but again Ken's/Shockers rallied some 7th inning offense and scored 6 times to take a 2 run lead into the bottom of the seventh. The LoCo plated only one run in the bottom of the 7th coming up just short to fall by a final score of Ken's 15, Lumber Co. 14. Congrats goes out to Ken's Beverage/Shockers for their tournament title. Leading the Lumber Co. offense for the tourney were M.Blackburn, .833; R.Wilda, .800, 16 RBIs, 1 HR; A.Blazekovich, .750; T.Giese, .750; J.Filas, .667, 10 RBIs; B.Walsh, .636; M.Wallace, .611; B.Munday, .611, R.Motta, .600, 9 RBIs; S.Munday, .571; K.Quinn, .556; M.Staab, .500; B.Strum, 11 RBIs, 2 HRs and K.Wallace, 1 HR.
