Lumber Company

Lumber Company went 2-2 to take 5th out of 19 teams in the May 3rd and 4th USSSA "D" Qualifier in Joliet. The 5th place finish earned the LoCo an unpaid USSSA "D" State tournament berth to be played in Joliet August 22nd-24th. Lumber Company opened 2003 USSSA play against Unishippers from Hainsville, IL. This game was all Lumber Co. as they came out on fire winning by a score of 14-1 in five innings. The LoCo scored 8 runs in the first, including 6 with 2 outs, keyed by a Scott Munday triple with the bases loaded to drive in 3 runs. Bob Munday (3B) added 3 hits. In game 2 Lumber Company squared off with Fudruckers from Wheaton, IL. The LoCo bats remained hot as they cruised to a 16-1 win in 3 innings. Leading the LoCo attack was Eric Boe (LC) with 2 triples, 1 HR and 7 RBIs. Matt Staab (RF), Kenny Wallace (P) and Jim Lesnik (2B) all had 3 hits. Lumber Company came into Sunday one of four undefeated teams and feeling confident. Game 3 pitted the LoCo against Joltin' Joe's from Waukegan, IL, and much like the Sunday weather the Lumber Co. bats went cold. Joltin' Joe's sent the Lumber Co. to the losers' bracket by a score of 11-3. Jeff Behun's (LF) 3 hits was the lone bright spot for the Lumber Company. Lumber Company's last game of the day was against Primetime from Joliet. Primetime came out firing, scoring 8 runs in the top of the first inning. But the Lumber Co. battled back to claim a 14-13 lead after 5. Primetime came right back adding 6 in the 6th to go up by a score of 19-14. The Lumber Co were only able o plate 3 more runs in the last two frames to go down in defeat by a final of 19-17. Leading the LoCo in the losing effort was Brad Walsh (1B) with 5 hits, 1 HR and 4 RBIs. Staab, Lesnik and S.Munday all added 3 hits this game. The Lumber Company attack was lead all weekend by E.Boe and M.Staab both hitting .692; S.Munday, .625; J.Behun, .615; B.Walsh, .583; B.Munday, .555; J.Lesnik, .555 and Bret Petersen .538. Lumber Company's next contest will be their Joliet Park District Tuesday night "B" league opener on May 6th against Kubinski Excavating at 8:30pm on field #1.
