Astros 2007 Majors Champs!

Posted by Jim Allen at May 16, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Down to their last strike, the Astros rallied from a 1-run deficit in the bottom of the 6th to defeat the Braves and claim the Majors Championship. After the Braves broke a 3-3 tie to go ahead 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Braves ace Eli Iaslovitz made quick work of the first two Astros batters in their last at bat. Zev Gassner quickly fell behind 0 and 2, but then fouled off 4 straight pitches before singling to start the rally. After Zac Groffman walked and two stolen bases later, Imani Edwards came through with a walk-off single to drive in two runs and win the game and the championship. Though the Astros never had a lead until the game winning hit, strong pitching by Ian Santana and Zev Gassner and solid defense by Edwards, Evan Yavner and Matthew Klein kept the Astros within striking distance the entire game. Congratulations to all the Astros!image
