Team Meeting & Barbeque

Posted by Cynthia Seltzer at Aug 24, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The barbeque is on.  I have heard from everyone and Sunday the 27th seems to work for you.  We have some team money left over from last year's tournament, so those funds will be buying the meat for the meal (this will not be coming out of your personal D-cats's accounts).  Each family needs to bring a dish and their own drinks.

Also, bring your ideas for next season with you (team and fundraising).  We have the answers from our survey, and will share general information with the group so we can discuss a direction for the team.  We are very excited about the coming season, and can't wait to see y'all again!  Don't forget to have the girls bring their high school uniforms!   Also, for those of you who need to add funds to your accounts, bring your checkbooks.  For the new players, we will try on uniforms and figure out your initial funds to get started.

We have a location for the meeting/barbeque.  We have kept the central location and possibilty of rain in mind and decided to go with Ron Eichaker's offer of using United Hebrew's picnic/pavilion area.  It is located right next to the synagogue, and we can go inside if it rains.  It also has a full kitchen if we would need that, plus a place for the girls to try on uniforms/change into high school uniforms for pictures.  Ron says that beer or wine is ok to bring in your cooler.

United Hebrew is located at 13788 Conway Road, St. Louis, MO 63141.  If you take I-40 to Highway 141 and go north on 141, Conway Road is the first intersection north of 40.  You want to go west (left) on Conway, and United Hebrew is the first building on the left.  You need to pull into the drive and go past the front and around the right side of the building to the back and make a left into the back parking lot.  Pull all the way in to the back of the lot and there will be a set of steps that lead down to the pavilion.  See the link below for a map.

News From Nationals!!!

  • Thursday, July 27th - Another tough loss for the Diamond Cats that ended our World Series tournament!  A 5 - 3 loss in the last inning on a 2-run homerun.  The cats got down 3 - 0, and put a good inning together in the rain to tie it up!  Then as the rain continued to come down, the Illinois Shock managed to put 2 more on the board to beat us.  Lindsay pitched an awesome game, and the entire team battled tough to make it a close game.  Good defense and good choices at the plate were important!  The Shock team is tough...putting 4 over the fence against the Excel on Wednesday.  Good game, tough outcome!  We are proud of our Cats!
  • Wednesday, July 26th - What a heartbreaker!  The Cats played the New York Lady Bandits and had our game going!  We jumped on the Bandits and were winning 3 - 1 going into the 7th inning.  Some bad luck and their good luck lead to a 4 run inning for the Bandits on a grand slam homerun...and our half of the seventh ended scoreless after we loaded the bases with one out.  It seems that a win for the Bandits was set in the stars or something...Our girls played so well, and a series of events led to our loss!  What a great bunch of players we have - we will come back and get the wins rolling up tomorrow!  Cheer on your cats!
  • Tuesday, July 25th - Cats took 3rd in our pool with a win over the Alaska Northstars.  Our bats arrived from St. Louis and we won 16 - 3!  Jana pitched a great game and we played good defense.  The hitting was the key, though!  12 hits, 7 walks, and 6 stolen bases got our offense jump-started.  JJ and Jenna started off the game with walks and scoring on stolen bases with errors!  2 runs without a hit!  We got everyone involved and it was great fun!  Our first win in "A" Nationals!  Good job, Cats!
  • Monday, July 24th - Diamond Cats played their first game today at 3:30 pm against the Ohio Attack!  And, they attacked quick.  They scored 2 runs in the first inning and that was all the scoring for the rest of the game.  Lindsay pitched a 4-hitter against a very good team, and we played flawless defense behind her.  However, the bats were not up to the task as the opposition 1-hit us.  Jana got the only hit and Anna reached on an error as the only other base runner!  Ouch!  We hit the ball hard, but either right to someone or the defense made a stellar play on us.  It was a well played game and we are proud of our cats!!!  Our next game is at 11:00 am tomorrow on field #29 again.  Be rooting for your cats!
