New Player & Weekly Practice Times

Posted by Thomas Tyrer at Feb 8, 2010 3:57PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Sun Devils are happy to announce the addition of their final player, Chris Brown. Chris played for the Homestead Grays of the International League last season, and besides baseball, also plays travel hockey and travel soccer. We’re very happy to have him, as we’d unfortunately lost Hunter Tiedemann who’ll be playing Pony with some of his other friends this season. With the addition of Chris, the Sun Devils have a total of 11 players.

Dave also selected our practice days and times over the weekend, so you can all mark your calendars. Weekly batting practices will occur on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. at the Dorsey cages. Weekly fielding and regular practices will occur Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-5:00 p.m. The afternoon time slot will enable all the boys to get home in plenty of time each Wednesday to do their homework and help their woebegone parents with the chores!

Baseball season begins the first Saturday in March, so practices will begin a week or two ahead of that. We’ll certainly let everyone know very soon. Go, Devils.

Sun Devils Uniforms

Posted by Thomas Tyrer at Feb 3, 2010 3:28PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Hi, everyone, Excuse the doubling up of emails, but until everyone is logged into the Sun Devils website at least once, we’ll need to cover our bases.

This Saturday, you can get significant discounts on baseball equipment at Dicks Sporting Goods in El Segundo (Rosecrans and Sepulveda). If you’re heading over, here’s what you should be getting for the Sun Devils uniforms:

1) You’ll need a RED (cardinal red) short-sleeve loose fit UnderArmour. You might also want to get a long-sleeve for the beginning of the season when it’s cool. The Sun Devils have sleeveless "vest" jerseys, and so the UnderArmour goes beneath. Without it, they’ll look like a bunch of musclemen mooks on the Jersey shore.

2. You’ll similarly need RED socks and a RED belt.

3. You’ll also need plain GRAY baseball pants. Just get the plain ones with NO piping down the sides. If you already have GRAY with RED piping, don’t worry about it. If for some reason you can’t find them at either Dicks or Sports Authority or one of the local dealers, then you can always get any of this stuff (at good prices) at BaseballExpress.com.

Dave and I are separately purchasing GOLD Sun Devils hats just like the ones the college team wears. The kids will like them. They have "Sparky" the Sun Devil on the back of the cap and the ASU logo on the front. We expect to get a very good deal on them, so the hats will likely be less than $10.

If you’re planning to get new cleats, anything will do. If you want to be spiffy about it, you might want red.

Dave will be getting a practice time at meetings this weekend, so we’ll let everyone know our practice night and time as soon as we get it.

Thanks again, and looking forward to a fun season.
