The Northville Mustangs played the Regina Saddelites tonight, and came out strong in the first period. At the end of the first period it was 2-0 with Northville having 14 shots on net. Two minutes into the second period Amy Cauzillo passed the puck to Sam Pope who tipped it to Jenny Forker who knocked it behind the Regina goalie for the Mustangs' first goal of the night. The Mustangs fell apart in the second period but picked it up after the intermission and the start of the third period. With 9:48 left in the game Emily Doren passed the puck to Meredith Ponder who put it in the back of the net for a goal. Just 3 minutes later Amy Cauzillo came rushing down the ice beating 4 Regina defenders and the goalie for the Mustangs final goal of the night. Northville's goalie, senior Danielle Bigi, played a great game along with the rest of the Mustangs. The game ended with a score of 10-3.
On December 17, the Mustangs faced off against Grosse Pointe North. The Mustangs played a great first period, keeping the puck down in North's end for more that 10 minutes. North scored a goal in the final minutes of the first period. The Mustangs fought hard in both the second and third period but were not able to win the game. Good playing and keep working hard. The Mustangs now take a holiday break and resume their games on January 7 when they face off against the Regina Saddelites.
On December 15, 2003 the Northville Mustangs took on the Cranbrook-Kingswood Cranes at home. The Cranes came out strong scoring 2 goals in the first period and 2 more in the second. But also in the second period, Bridget Hughes came flying down the ice and made a pass to Emily Doren who slid the puck in behind the sprawling Cranbrook goalie. The game ended with a score of 6-1, great effort Mustangs! The Mustangs take on the Grosse Point North Norseman on Wednesday in Grosse Point and then take a break for Christmas.
On December 10, the lady Mustangs faced off against the defending state champions, the Grosse Pointe South Lady Blue Devils. The Mustangs came out very strong and played an excellent game. Players shone on both the defensive and offesive side of the puck; however, the Mustangs' playing was not enough to stop the talented South team. Although the girls' lost the game, they played an extremely well and have greatly improved since last season. Danielle Bigi played an amazing game stopping 34 out of 40 shots! Great job and keep up the good work!
On Wednesday, December 3rd, Northville took on Bloomfield at home. Northville came out quick with a goal in the first 2 minutes. The scoring continued throughout the game with Northville finishing the game with 11 goals and Bloomfield getting 2 goals past backup goalie Ashley Crawford. Credit for goals goes to Emily Doren, Jenny Forker (2), Kim Bagian, Andrea Soloko (3), Amy Cauzillo, Meredith Ponder, Bridget Hughes, and Katie Hietela. Bloomfield played a very good game as well and had great sportsmanship! Great job Northville!!
