Posted by Bill Holden at Nov 17, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Northville Mustangs participated in the Michigan Invitational this weekend facing off for their first game against the PCS Penguins. The game started off slow and the first goal wasnt scored until 1:25 left in the first period by PCS's Kristen Schwan. The Mustangs bounced back in the 2nd period with a goal by Sam Pope and the assist by Kristen Ruzylo. PCS was next to score almost 10 minutes later. The score remained 2-1 in PCS's favor until just 4:21 left in the third period when Kristen Ruzylo put one in the back of the net tying up the game. As the last second ticked off the clock, the Mustangs were headed once again into overtime. Just 2 minutes into the overtime, Amy Cauzillo skated the puck down unassisted for the game winning goal. In Northville's history, they have played in 10 overtimes and have not lost one yet *knock on wood*. GREAT GAME GIRLS. The Mustangs now face off the Ladywood Blazers in the championship game on Saturday at 3 PM.

Northville vs. Regina (Scrimmage)

The Northville Mustangs faced off against the Regina Saddelites tonight for a scrimmage. Both teams worked hard and the score remained tied until 7:32 into the 2nd period. Prior to that however, Danielle Toro collided with Amy Cauzillo and was seriously hurt. The entire team sends our condolences to her. As the game resumed, Amy Cauzillo broke the scoreless game with a shot from the top of the circle right past the Regina Goalie putting Northville in the lead. Sam Pope scored next with a pass from Laura Zima. Sam deked out the goalie out for a 2-0 lead. Regina came back though and scored with 7 minutes left to go in the third. Andrea Soloko received a pass from Megan Beger and Soloko took a slapshot from the blue line finishing the game off with a 3-1 lead for Northville. Great game girls! Northville is playing in the Michigan Invititational which starts next week. Our first game is against PCS on Thursday at 8 at Suburban.

The Northville Mustangs took on the Mercy Marlins tonight at Mercy's home ice. Northville came out strong in the first period, scoring just 1:02 into the first period. Andrea Soloko gave Sam Pope the puck who skated it up to put it into the back of the net. The next goal came just 2 minutes later when Bridget Hughes gave Amy Cauzillo the puck for a 2-0 lead. with 7:13 left in the first period, Emily Doren passed Bridget Hughes the puck who fired it into the net with another goal for the Mustangs. Sam Pope took the puck all the way up the ice for an unassisted goal just 1:45 later. The game calmed down in the second period with no goals at all that period. The intermission fired the Mustangs back up again because just 1:34 seconds into the third period the last goal of the game was scored. Rachel Reuter passed to Bridget Hughes who ripped a shot. The puck came back out and Emily Doren tapped it between teh goalie's legs. The puck was sitting on the line and Mercy's goalie finally kicked it in for the final goal of the night. Mercy fought hard, but the Mustangs set the tone for the 2004-2005 season tonight. Good job girls! Next game is Saturday at Novi against Regina.

Last Season...

Posted by Bill Holden at Oct 28, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Northville Mustangs went into the 2003-2004 season with a 4-15 record, hoping only to win a few more games and have fun. Not only did they surpas that record, but the Mustangs became the fisrt team to be seeded in 6th place or below in the standings to make it to the semifinals. Ask any girl on the team last year. "What was your favorite memory of the 2003-2004 season?" and i gurantee you they will all say "the night we beat North and advanced to the semi's". Northville went in to that game as underdogs having lost to North twice 6-0. North played hard and well but the Mustangs came out on top, winning in overtime with a goal by Sam Pope. Northville went on to lose to Cranbrook in the semi's, but it was the experience that made it all worthwhile. So girls as we all know now, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. So let's have a great season and remember we have home ice advantage again at the playoffs!image
