Wow. Three games in 24 hours. The Mustangs began this with a game on Friday against the University of Liggett for the annual ULS tournament. Goals were scored by Andrea Soloko and Leslie Roumayah. The final score was 4-2 in Ligget's favor. The Mustangs fought hard but did not have their best game and Ligget came out on top. The previous night's preformance did not affect Saturday morning's game however. Northville played Grosse Pointe North for the consolation game at 12 noon. Grosse Pointe North struck first 5 minutes into the first sliding the puck right past the Northville goalie. It took awhile, but Northville finally got the game going in their favor. Meredith Ponder receieved a pass from Emily Doren and one timed it into the goal to tie the game. The Norsemen struck just 30 seconds later puting the lead back in their favor. Northville, however, was not about to give up. Anjali Saran received a penalty with 9 minutes left in the second period. One minute later Amy Cauzillo passed the puck to Sam Pope who put the puck in the back of the net, on her backhand upper corner shot. Not only was there one shorthanded goal, but two. Thirty seconds later Andrea Soloko took the puck down and put another goal on the scoreboard for the Mustangs. Anjali Saran was next to score with assists by Meredith Ponder and Emily Doren. The score was increased to 5-3 when Amy Cauzillo received a pass from Bridget Hughes and Rachel Reuter. The teams went into intermission with the score at 5-3. Grosse Pointe North managed to put one more goal past the Mustang goalie, but Kristen Ruzylo scored with 3 minutes left to go to secure the Northville win. It was one of the best games Northville has played all year. CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!
