Northville vs. ULS

Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 24, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Northville traveled out to Grosse Pointe tonight to play the University of Liggett Knights. From the first face-off, both teams knew that this game would have both a high intensity and a high goal count. The first goal was by Northville's Amy Cauzillo with assists by Bridget Hughes and Andrea Soloko. When Meredith Ponder received a penatly at 8:00, the Knights took advantage of their opportunity and tied up the game. Just 2 mintues later, the Knights scored again. Amy Cauzillo tied the game up for Northville with a slap shot from half-ice with 1.3 seconds left in the first period. The puck bounced off the cross-bar and dropped into the net. Ponder received another penalty at 10:13 in the 2nd period, leaving the Mustangs short-handed. Instead of the Knights pulling ahead this time however, Cauzillo added two goals, both unassissted, to the score-board for the Mustangs at 8:44 and 8:26. A minute later Meredith Ponder threw the puck high up in the air and it dropped down in front of Andrea Soloko who slid and slammed the puck into the back of the net making the score 5-2 in favor of the Mustangs. After intermission, Cauzillo scored her final goal of the night at 12:56 unassisted. The Knights made a comeback scoring two goals in the third period. With 25.7 seconds left to go on the clock, a fight broke out in front of the net that lasted about a minute and a half. Tensions were high and the refs simply allowed the clock to run out the remaining seconds. Bridget Hughes and Sam Pope each received 2 minute penalites for fighting where as Andrea Soloko got a game misconduct and Meredith Ponder received a two game misconduct. Northville, however, was not the only team at fault as Liggett's Alexis Bohlinger and Monique Squiers each received two game misconducts as well. The well-played game ended on a bad note and both teams will go into their next game minus a head coach and key players from their roster. Northville plays Regina this Saturday at Regina at 9pm. Well-fought game girls!

Northville falls short of Cranbrook

Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 10, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Northville fought hard against the Cranbrook Cranes yesterday, but just could not seem to get the puck in the back of the net. The game remained scoreless until the second period when Tarasi Karega got her first of what would end up being a hat trick for the night. The Mustangs continued with their offensive pressure, but the Cranes struck again late in the second period with another goal by Tarasi. With three mintues left to go in the game, Andrea Soloko took a low, hard slap shot from teh blue line that deflected off the far post just barley missing the goal. Northville had 38 shots on net for the night while Cranbrook only had 18. Northville dominated play for much of the game, but just couldnt seem to put it past Cranbrook's goalie. Our next game is Wednesday the 12th against Walled Lake.
