Northville Mustangs

For the first time in Northville's history, the Mustangs beat the Cranbrook-Kingswood Cranes tonight with a score of 5-4. The cranes came out early, just two minutes into the game, with a goal by Ming. Northville, however, came right back with a goal by Emily Doren and assists given to Bridget Hughes and Claire Eley. Cranbrook struck next, just a minute later with a goal of their own. Then, with 3:08 left in the first period, Meredith Ponder passed the puck to Laura Zima who was standing on the blue line and fired it right past the goalie to even the game up at 2-2. The second period began with numerous penalites, but the scoring didnt start until 6:14 when Cranbrook put another point up on the board. Just two minutes later, Marie McIntyre attemped to clear the puck out of the Mustangs zone and, off of a deflection, put Krysten Ruzylo on a breakaway to even up the game. With 8.2 seconds left in the second period, Bridget Hughes passed the puck behind her to Emily Doren who put the Mustangs ahead of the Cranes for the first time in this game. After the intermission, Cranbrook came out hard with a goal by their Stapleton. The rest of the period remained scoreless with the game locked at 4-4. The teams were preparing for overtime when Bridget Hughes took the puck down the ice and with 3.5 seconds left took a shot putting it right past the Cranbrook goalie and winning the game for the Mustangs! The Mustangs will now play Grosse Pointe North for the championship game at 3pm today. Congratulations!

Northville played their first home game of the season against the Ann Arbor Pioneers on Tuesday night. The Mustangs scored first when Meredith Ponder took a shot which rebounded out perfectley for Anjali Saran to put in the back of the net. The Pioneers werent about to give up, however, and came back with a goal of their own early in the first period. The score remained 1-1 until the middle of the second period when Krysten Ruzylo took off on a breakaway making the score 2-1 in Northville's favor. The Mustangs fought hard to maintain their lead and the score remained 2-1 until the final buzzer. Northville is now 1-1 in the league and 2-2 overall. Our next game is Tuesday November 29 against Mercy. We will play away at Eddie Edgar Arena at 8pm.

The Mustangs started out their season with two pre-season scrimmages against Cranbrook and Regina. Northville lost 2-5 to Cranbrook with goals by Krysten Ruzylo and Bridget Hughes. They beat Regina Saturday night 4-3 with goals by Andrea Soloko, Bridget Hughes, Krysten Ruzylo and Emily Doren. Our first game of the season is Tuesday night against Grosse Pointe North at Viking Arena. Come support us!
