Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 31, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Saturday, the Mustangs traveled to Hazel Park to face off against Bloomfield. The game started off slow with no goals until 6:20 in the first period when Meredith Ponder finally put one past the Bloomfield goalie. Although Bloomfield tried hard and was able to keep up with the Mustangs for most of the first period, the game ended in a 10-0 win for Northville. Goals were scored by Meredith Ponder (2), Bridget Hughes, Erin Morrell, Krysten Ruzylo (2), Lisa Fishbeck, Rachel Reuter, Emily Doren, and Erin Hietala. Congratulations girls! Our next game was played today against Mercy at our home ice. Having played Mercy twice already this season (a 5-2 win and a 4-5 overtime loss), they were ready for anything. The game was fairly uneventful with no penalties or goals until the third period. Megan Beger recieved a pass from Andrea Soloko and was finally able to break the 0-0 tie. Meredith Ponder struck next putting a sliding puck past the Mercy goalie for the 2-0 win. Just 90 seconds later, Anjali Saran scored with a pass from Meredith Ponder securing the Mustangs 3-0 win. Our next game is this Saturday vs. Ladywood at Arctic Pond at 6pm.

Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 15, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After the holiday break, our first game back was against the Regina Saddelites. Bridget Hughes started out the scoring for Northville with a goal assissted by Carrie Pichan and Rachel Reuter. Regina scored next with Northville firing back with a goal by Emily Doren, assissted by Megan Beger. At the end of regulation the game remained tied 2-2 and the game went into an 8 minute sudden death overtime. However, neither team was able to score so the game ended with a 2-2 tie. The following Wednesday, the Mustangs took on the Port Huron Rebels on our home ice. Andrea Soloko got a hat trick scoring three goals in the first seven minutes. One goal went unassissted and Laura Zima assissted the other two. The score was 3-0, when late in the first period, a pass across the middle was deflected and into the net for a Port Huron goal. The rest of the game remained scoreless and it ended with a 3-1 win for Northville. Finally, last Saturday night, the Mustangs traveled to Ann Arbor to take on the Pioneers. Andrea Soloko scored the only goal for the Mustangs unassissted. The game again went into an 8 minute sudden death overtime, but neither team was able to score. Another tie for the Northville Mustangs. Our record is now 4-3-2 in the league and 9-5-2 overall. On Wednesday, the 18th, we take on the University of Liggett at Compuware at 4:10 pm. Much-needed break for the Mustangs.

Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 1, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Christmas break could not have come at a better time for the Mustangs. With six injured players unable to participate, the Mustangs would not have been able to compete at the top of their game. After resting for most of the break, 5 out of the 6 injured players can return to play for our next game on Saturday vs. Regina. It's at 8pm at the St. Clair Shores Civic Arena. Hope to see you there!

After a stunning loss last night to the Mercy Marlins, the Northville Mustangs arrived to Suburban Training Center ready to play. Just as in the game the night before, Northville struck first just a minute and 15 seconds into the game with a goal by Bridget Hughes and assists by Emily Doren and Erin Hietala. Walled Lake scored next tying the game up. At 9:39 Andrea Soloko took a diving shot at the net and scored an unassisted goal for the Mustangs. Again, Walled Lake struck next with a goal by their Lauren Krajewski. As the second period began, tensions ran high for both teams as these rivals met for the first time this season. Numerous penalties occured but Northville was still able to score three goals this period to Walled Lake's one. The first was a shot from Krysten Ruzylo that was deflected over the Goalie's head and dropped into the back of the net. Assist from Andrea Soloko. Emily Doren scored next for the Mustangs and was followed by a goal from defender Laura Zima with a shot from the blue line. Andrea Soloko, Briget Hughes and Anjali Saran all received assists on those goals. After intermission, both teams had retained their sportsmanship and the Mustangs went on to win the game 5-4. Our next game will be Wednesday , December 14th at Cranbrook. This ought to be an exciting game after last weeks outcome at the University of Liggett Tournament. Hope to see you there!

Mustangs Fall Hard to Marlins

Posted by Bill Holden at Dec 8, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After defeating defending state champs Cranbrook-Kingswood last week, the Mustangs had a bad game Friday night against Mercy losing in double overtime 4-3. The game started out great in the Mustangs' favor. Andrea Soloko started the scoring off in the first 45 seconds with a goal a wrist shot from the blue line off of a pass from Erin Hietala. Three minutes later Claire Eley made the score 2-0 off of a pass from Anjali Saran and Emily Doren. Northville continued to dominate the first period when Carrie Pichan shot from just outside the crease. Emily Doren and Erin Morrell recorded the assists on that goal. Northville was now up 3-0 and began to relax and allowed Mercy to take over the game. The Marlins scored just 30 seconds after Pichan's goal and then again 2 minutes later making the score 3-2 at the end of the first period. The game remained this way until with 2 minutes left in the second period, the Marlins managed to tie the game at 3-3. As the third period got underway, the Mustangs came out strong with a flurry of shots on the Marlin goalie but unable to put one in the net. As the last seconds ticked down, there was a scuffle in front of the net and just as the buzzer sounded, the puck slid past the Marlin goalie and into the back of the net. However, it was ruled not a goal and the game went into overtime. The first overtime remained scoreless and 30 seconds into the second overtime, the Marlins won the game. Northville had over 50 shots on Marlin Goalie Ashley Wrobel who played an excellent game and should be comended. The Mustangs will play tomorrow night in the consolation game aganist Walled Lake at 6:30 pm.
