Troy Drew is trying to gauge interest in creating a GCMFL team to play in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League (an intermediate-level competitive league) and enter intermediate tournaments such as the ones hosted by Manotick and Fitzroy this year. Please take a moment to visit the Joe Johnson team's page and fill out the survey at the bottom.

GCMFL Team Wins Blackburn Tournament

Posted by Eric Rosenquist at Aug 7, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
A squad of 7 Restore-All and 4 RBC players won the Blackburn league tournament held August 5th through 7th. The team had only one loss to a good young squad from Prince Edward County, which they avenged by defeating the same team 10-6 in the final on Sunday. Congratulations to all who participated - it was a total team effort with excellent defence and hitting from everyone in the lineup. Duane Bromley pitched all but 4 innings for the team and earned tournament MVP honours. A big thanks to the Blackburn league for hosting a great tournament - hopefully more GCMFL teams will be able to participate next year.
The "Glen Cairn I4C Selects" had a disappointing weekend going 0-2 before having to pull out of the tournament. Friday's game saw a 6-3 loss to the eventual tournament winner, West Carleton Electric. After being down 6-0 going into the fifth, a solo home run by Pat O'Connor brought the team into the game. Then in the sixth inning the boys loaded the bases with none out but were only able to cash two more runs before the WC defense made some very impressive plays to hold the score @ 6-3. After a slow start by pitcher Todd Wilson, he settled in and retired several innings in order to keep the game close. The game saw some great defensive work from the I4C side as well, including a perfect strike-out-throw out double play by catcher Adam McNamara to 2B Troy Drew. Also of note was a diving stop by Pat O'Connor at short to make a perfect throw from his knees to Steve McLaughlin at first. Saturday saw a game against the young team from Quyon. Down 1-0 going into the 4th, Trever Hill hit a solo home-run to tie the game. After a 2 run shot by Dan Rollin, the boys took a 4-1 lead into the 7th. The Quyon team then scored three runs to tie the game and send it into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, a perfect sac bunt and a blooper to right field scored the winning run. Neil Cooke pitched a great game only allowing one run through 6 innings. Even though the results weren't what we wanted, the team did turn some heads and have been invited back. Congrats to all who participated for putting forth a fine effort.
