Internationals and BRYC 91 Tune-Up

24 Feb. '07. After almost a 2 month layoff from playing soccer against (3) strong teams at Disney (1-1-1), the Internationals matched up with its friends from VA at the George Mason University turf field in Fairfax, VA. BRYC 91 will play in Region I Premier this spring while the Internationals will have another go in NCSL/D1. Although a bit chilly with temps in the low/mid-30's with light winds, the weather cooperated with sunny skies and no precipitation (which would arrive in the form of snow, freezing rain/sleet and rain the next day). BRYC 91 came out of the gate with strong play in the opening minutes, scoring at the 4 minute mark by nicely working the ball into 18-22 yards out center and a BRYC player struck a solid shot which whizzed past Joe into the net. Although Inter managed 2 shots on goal and created 3 corner kick opportunities, no equalizer goal could be finished. BRYC would shoot just twice on goal and no corners. In the second half, Inter moved the ball much better and would manage 5 shots on goal and 1 corner kick, but could only finish once, while BRYC would shoot 4 times on goal with 1 corner kick and would finish twice more. At about the 14 minute mark, BRYC moved the ball well downfield and penetrated deep into the back line and was able to score. But, just 1 minute later, Inter countered by moving the ball quickly downfield, but the ball was intercepted and Inter benefited by the misfortunate pass from a BRYC player to the GK who mishandled the ball and Scott easily passed the ball 2-3 feet over to Vitalis in front of the net who tapped in Inter's only goal of the scrimmage. With only 1-2 minutes left in the scrimmage, BRYC again moved the ball downfield and penetrated into back line and managed to finish a close-in shot into the net, and the scrimmage ended, 3-1, BRYC 91.
