Bucks Pick Pirates Pocket For MAC Crown
Bucks Pick Pirates Pocket For MAC Crown
October 12, 2003 - The Bucks got a Mohican Championship after 9 years of frustration as they defeated the Black River Pirates 10-9 in front of a large home crowd.
The Pirates got the only score in the first half on a Kyle Clark 21 yard field goal. The slippery and wet conditions kept both teams from getting the offenses wound up before the half time show.
With almost eight minutes gone in the 3rd period Dan Cereshko found Tyler Van Drei for a 16 yard scoring pass, Ryan Hoover added the kick ad it was 7-3 Buckeye.
The Pirates answered back with 11:16 left in the 4th on a 2 yard run by Brian Ensign. This time Clark's kick was wide and the Pirates were up 9-7. Buckeye capped it with 2:12 left as Hoover put up a 29 yard field goal to make it 10-9 and that was enough. The Bucks were MAC Champs and earned the right to travel to Willard to meet the Crimson Flashes in Round 1 of the State Playoffs.
Forest Mercer led the Bucks with 48 yards on 12 carries, while Dan Cereshko was 6 of 18 for 101 yards in the air.
The regular season finale will be at home on Friday night, as the Bucks play their last Mohican Conference Game.
