2009 All Ohio Selection

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 5, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
2009 All Ohio Selection

Kelton Keller was selected to the Associated All Ohio Team as a 2nd Team Offensive Lineman on Wednesday. Keller was a 4 year letter winner with the Bucks from 2006-2009, Congratulations Kelton.

From the GAZETTE:

"COLUMBUS — Make no bones about it, Buckeye’s Kelton Keller and Black River’s Jon Sas were the best lineman and linebacker in the Patriot Athletic Conference.

With that said, each was an easy second-team All-Ohio selection when the Associated Press Division III and IV teams were released on Tuesday.

For Keller, it caps a season in which he exploded onto the scene as a playmaking offensive and defensive lineman. Not only was the 6foot-3, 230-pound senior and fouryear starter a powerful blocker, but well over a dozen tackles for loss proved he could do it on both sides of the ball.

Keller’s selection marks the sixth season since 2002 that Buckeye has had a player make second team or better.

“I think he’s well-deserving of any all-state recognition he may get,” Bucks coach Billy Burke said. “He’s a great kid and very coachable kid that has done everything we’ve asked him to.”

Buckeye Team History

Buckeye Team History

Updated 1/31/2018

On this page is some team info, records, and hopefully in the future, team pictures of all 65 Buckeye Bucks teams. The teams are listed by year with a short blurb about them. Click on any given year and you can view more facts, teams info and schedule with scores. After viewing the entire page you should be a Bucks' Football expert!

In the first 65 years Buckeye Teams have gone 362-263-13 for a .578 winning percentage. The 1960's saw the best winning percentage and the 1990's saw the worst. During the period of 1956-1966 Buckeye was Medina County's winningest High School with a 58-35-6 record for a .586%.

From 1953 until until 1956 Buckeye belonged to the Medina County League which also contained Brunswick, Seville, Lodi, Highland, Boston (Pennisula) and Wakeman. The Bucks were Co-Champs with Brunswick in 1953.

The Bucks then joined the newly formed Inland Conference in 1957 along with original members Brookside, Firelands, LaGrange(Keystone), South Amherst, Avon, Columbia and Highland.

The Inland changed over the years, Brookside left after the '69 season and was replaced in 1970 by Lutheran West. Highland left for the Suburban Conference after the 1975 season. That brought Independence in to the League for the 1976 season. South Amherst merged with Firelands after the 1978-79 school year and that brought Brooklyn to the Inland in the 1979 season.

The Conference folded at the end of the 1987 season. The Bucks were IC Champs eight times during the 31 years of its existance, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1979, 1983, 1984,and 1987.

For the 5 seasons from 1988 through 1992 the Bucks played an Independent schedule and broke even, going 25-25 in that period.

In 1993 they, along with Black River joined the Mohican Area Conference and were there for the last 10 seasons, posting a 17-33 mark with their lone MAC Championship in 2002. The 2003 season was the last for the MAC, which had only 5 members that year as West Holmes bowed out at the conclusion of 2002.

For the duration of 2004 the Bucks were once again Independent and posted a 6-3 record.

The 2005-2006 School year brought the newly created Patriot Athletic Conference (PAC). The conference began with two 5 team divisions, the Stars Division and the Stripes Division. In 2011 they expanded to two 6 team divisions with the addition of Firelands and Fairview and it became the PAC12. The Bucks have gone 67-17-0 in the first 12 seasons in the PAC, picking up the Stars Division Crown in 2005 by going a perfect 10-0. They then added eight more crowns in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017. They went 10-0 for the third time during 2017.

The league was formed with teams from 3 different Conferences. Buckeye and Black River from the MAC, Brooklyn, Columbia, and Lutheran West came from the Metropolitan Area Conference, and Brookside, Keystone, Wellington, Oberlin, and Clearview come from the Lorain County Conference. The PAC12 Conference will be disbanded at the end of 2019 Season since all of the Lorain County teams chose to form a different league. This will leave Buckeye, Brooklyn, Fairview and Lutheran West looking for a new conference.

Below is the All-Time Record broken down by decade.

Years Games Record Win %
1953-1959 61 32-24-5 .525%
1960-1969 90 56-31-3 .622%

Say Goodbye To The Hornets

Say Goodbye To The Hornets

Buckeye Athletic Director Glen Reisner has decided not to renew the contract with Highland after the two teams playing each other in football for 57 years, or the entire time Buckeye has existed as a school system. They Hornets held a 33-22-2 series record over the Bucks and were 6-4 since 2000 against Buckeye. Last week the contract with Cloverleaf was renewed. The Hornets will be replaced on the 2010 schedule in Week 2 by Elyria Catholic.

The Panthers and the Bucks have met 6 times, in 1954 and 1955 and then from 1989 through 1992, with the two teams splitting the wins in those games. The Panthers are in Division 4 Region 14, have a record of 3-1 this season and are currently ranked 10th in that region.

We also bid farewell to the Pride of Highland band who have always been entertaining during halftime and their great selection of football fare at the concession stand when we were at their field. A rivalry and big piece of Buckeye Football history has gone by the wayside.
