Whittington featured in today's Inquirer

Posted by Geoff Filinuk at Oct 26, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Stepping it up. Collingswood receiver Brandon Whittington had just seven receptions in his first four games, but he has stepped things up in his last two. Two weeks ago, he had five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown against Paulsboro, and Friday he added six receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown against Haddon Twp. Overall, he has 18 receptions for 306 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, Whittington has two punt returns for touchdowns, both of which came against Haddon Twp. Earlier this fall, he made a commitment to Purdue.
Bradon Whittington has made a verbal commitment to the University of Purdue to play wide receiver for the Boilermakers next season. He will officially sign with the school on national signing day. Congratulations Brandon. Whittington picks Purdue By Sam Carchidi Inquirer Staff Writer Collingswood High senior wide receiver Brandon Whittington, a onetime soccer player, has made an oral commitment to attend Purdue on a football scholarship. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Whittington, who is one of the area's most acrobatic receivers, was the top scorer for Collingswood's varsity soccer team when he was a sophomore. He has been an outstanding receiver/defensive back the last two seasons. "He visited Purdue over the weekend and made the commitment before he left," Collingswood coach Bob Barikian said last night. Senior high school football players can sign binding letters of intent from Feb. 4 to April 1. Whittington - who played football as a freshman before switching to soccer for a year - also was offered football scholarships by Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Akron, Western Michigan, Hofstra and Delaware, Barikian said. In Collingswood's first three games, Whittington has caught four passes - three for touchdowns. image
