IT'S SHOWTIME........3 MATCHES THIS WEEK

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Aug 19, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Good day players (and soccer family):

It is finally game week....three matches in the next six days.  We must make sure that we eat right, get plenty of rest and get to bed by 10:45pm each night.

Match One versus Northmont will be a very tough contest.  We have never beaten the Thunderbolts, but NOW would be a great time to change that record.  We are looking to improve over last years' 7-1 shellacking.  BUS LEAVES AT 3:45 .

Match Two versus Edgewood should be the opposite as we have a 14 game win streak intact at this point.  Edgewood is young and will play the entire 80 minutes as they demonstrated last season when they scored 3 goals in the final nine minutes to finish strong in their 5-3 loss.  We must play well to get a positive result.

Match Three should be very exciting versus Wilmington.  Andrew Gray closed last years' match with the famous "Go Baby" goal in the final minute to seal the 2-0 victory.  We should finish the week with a very strong effort.  BUS LEAVES AT 3:30 .

I want to thank everyone who participated in our Cubs Fundraiser this weekend.  It was very successful and the management of Cubs shared several compliments of the excellent work ethic of the boys.  Great job, guys!   Thank you to those parents who volunteered their time and a special thank you to Sherri Cook for leading this event!!!

Dear Soccer Family:

For the third straight week, I say thank you for such a strong effort.  Tryouts, practices and scrimmages have all gone well and I look forward to a beneficial week of practice.  Overall, I am so pleased with the work that each athlete has provided.

We are much further along in our training and performance versus last year, but STILL well short of our potential.  I have been imploring the players to compare themselves to only one person.....the person in the mirror.  Are you as good as the person in the mirror can be?  If not, then you must continue to work hard every day, stretching yourself to become great.

Picture day is Tuesday at Harmon Field.  I ask that you arrive by 12:30 so that we can go be ready when the time to shoot is upon us.  All players should wear their cleats for pictures.  If you need a ride, please speak with a teammate or coach.

A quick thank you to the Throckmortons for spearheading the "Meet the Vikings" indoor picnic.   Everything was wonderful.  A nice start to a new tradition.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Coach Ric

HOW TO HAVE A GREAT WEEK OF TRYOUTS

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Aug 3, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Soccer Players:

It's showtime and I want each of you to have the very best tryout possible.  Monday morning will be the beginning of what should be the most successful soccer season in school history and I want each of you to play a part.

Below is listed a couple ways to aid your tryout, to help your body feel its best and to keep your mind positive on what you need to do:

-   Eat four medium meals a day at 6:15am....11:00am.... 4:30pm....and 9:30pm.   Plenty of fruit, vegetables, macaroni & cheese and pasta.   Stay away from fried foods, red meat and fast food.

-   Drink tons of water & gatorade.......drink all the time, even when you are not thirsty.  You must keep yourself hydrated and that means at least 8 large glasses of water everyday, plus your sports drinks.   NO soda, coffee, or heavy juices.

-   Stay off your feet between practices....you must rest when you are away from the pitch.  Take a revitalizing bath sequence between sessions.....2-3 minutes in cold water, then 10-12 in warm water with epson salts.  This will revive your legs.

-   Stay focused on what you are able to do....don't worry about other players, your past performance or a poor outing, instead stay focused on doing what is asked of you and doing it to the best of your ability. Keep a positive mindset.

-   Get plenty of rest.... you should be asleep in bed by 10:15 every night this week.   This gives you 8 hours of quality rest before the next day.  No excuses....make it happen.

If you do the things above, you give yourself the best chance to succeed.  If you have any questions, please speak with the coaching staff so that we can provide understanding.

Coach Ric
