HOW GOOD ARE WE ???

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Sep 23, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Soccer Players ( and families ):

As we approach the remaining three weeks of the season, the question..."How good are we?" is like a neon sign in my brain.  As the head coach...did I have expectations that were too high....did the loss of some players impact us more than I thought...are other teams better or are we underachieving?

I wish I knew the exact truth, but an even better question is "Do we want to achieve our potential?"  The great news is that this week is the second step on our quest to win a conference championship (something no other boys' soccer team has done).

Tomorrow, we host the Springboro Panthers....a team we have not beaten in 10 years.  They are ranked 5th in the area and provide a great hurdle to us achieving one of our team goals.  We have the ability to compete in this game, but we must come prepared to give our very best.

Our second match of the week is at home versus Springfield North.  Another chance for us to add to our victory column as the Panthers are struggling this year.

I look forward to these last three weeks as a great chance to show how good we are and to reach our potential.  We can win the last 6 matches "IF" we play our best as a team.  In doing so, we will answer all the questions above and gain some much needed confidence in our own ability.

A quick reminder to stay focused on your school work.  We cannot afford to lose anyone because of grades.  Also, make the right choices regarding your actions.  We need to be a team of character.

For Soccer,

Coach Ric

Alex played 2 years on the JV team and this year on the Varsity team where he is currently a forward. He is on the B honor roll and is involved in exercise science.  He plans to attend Ohio University in the pre-physical therapy program and would love to continue to play soccer for the college team. He will miss his high school friends, but not the drama and a few teachers. His favorite memory of Vikings Soccer is scoring twice in ten minutes in his first game back against Greenville.   imageimage

Matt was on the JV team his first year and the Varsity team for the last three years of high school playing both midfield and forward. He is on the A/B honor roll and is a member of the Earth Club. In 2006 Matt was awarded the Kettering Medical Center Sportsmanship Award and made Third Team All-Area Dayton South. He is also co-captain of the team this year. He plans to become an engineering student at Wright State University but is not planning on playing soccer there. He says the only thing he will miss about high school is his easy classes. His favorite memory of playing high school soccer is when he got two assists during the Fairborn game in 2005.  imageimage

David is on the A honor roll and is a member of the National Honor Society. He spent two years on the Vikings JV team and two years on the Varsity team as a defender and is co-captain this year. He plans to attend college and major in Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine and would like to continue playing soccer at the college he chooses. He says he will miss his high school friends and playing soccer, but not the crowded high school. His favorite memory of MHS soccer is getting his Varsity letter and his first high school goal against West Carrollton his freshman year.    imageimage
