CUB FOODS FUNDRAISER

Posted by Terry Stump at Jul 30, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Our second biggest fundraiser of the year- Cub Foods Grocery Bagging- is the Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 22 & 23. Below is the sign up list for both days, the guidelines the players need to follow to participate and some helpful hints for bagging groceries.
I do want to mention a couple of things:
  • All players need to wear their black Miamisburg soccer T-Shirts so that the customers can identify the group the boys are working for.
  • If you choose to wear shorts, please wear khaki shorts. Shorts need to be worn above the waist.
  • No sandals, flip flops or open toe shoes are permitted. Gym shoes are fine.
  • No food, drink or cell phones are permitted on the floor. Please leave your phone at home or plan to leave it with the parents sitting at the table.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift.
  • Plan on bringing your bright, cheery attitudes! Customers like to see you smile and have fun!
If you have any questions or problems, please contact me at home at 859-1456 or on my cell phone at 241-2146.
Thanks in advance for your support of this event!

REMINDERS FOR CUB FOODS FUND RAISER
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your shift & see a parent volunteer to sign in and for a review of proper bagging instructions.
  • Players please wear your black Vikings Soccer T-Shirt – This is a requirement as you must all wear matching shirts
  • Shorts are OK to wear, however they must be Khaki shorts.
  • NO open toed shoes, flip flops, sandals etc are permitted!
  • No food, drinks, or cell phones are permitted on the sales floor
  • No more than two baggers per register, with the exception of the express lane and there will be no baggers on these lanes
  • Bagging is to be done by the students only. Parents are not supposed to be bagging. This is an opportunity for the students to earn their own money.
  • Please stay at the register you’re assigned to and do not congregate in groups
  • The players are not permitted to sit on the bench or the bag racks, they are there to work and it does not look good to the customers if they’re sitting down. Cub Foods is aware that at times it is slow and there is nothing to do. This is when the extra baggers need to utilize Cub Foods break room
  • If the store has demos (food samples) they are for the customers only
  • Students under the age of 18 are not permitted to handle any alcohol beverages, so please ask a parent volunteer for assistance if someone purchases alcohol on the register you’re working and you’re under the age of 18
  • Please be polite and courteous to all customers! Ask them if they’d like their groceries bagged and if they would, ask if they’d like paper or plastic. If they don’t want their groceries bagged, just say “OK Thank you” and step back away from the register until they’ve finished bagging their own groceries and you’re able to approach the next customer.
Below are some Helpful Hints for Bagging provided by Cub Foods (I will have copies of this at the store) :
  • Always pack bags with the heaviest items on the bottom and all crushable items (I.E. eggs, baked goods, breads, chips, softer fruit, etc..) on the top
  • Limit the bags to one layer of cans or four heavy jars on the bottom. This prevents bags from tearing when they are lifted the wrong way, as well as keeps the weight of the bags to a manageable level
  • Try to keep all cold and frozen items (including produce) together in one or two bags. Many customers travel long distances home and this method keeps the items colder longer. Customers really appreciate this!
  • Never pack detergent, soaps or cleaning products with food items, especially not with produce, bakery items or meats. These foods will smell like the soaps. If the bag is dropped, cleaning products could spill on the food.
Cub Foods will provide a follow up letter and discuss the performance of our group as to whether it was positive or negative. Let’s ensure we continue to get a positive report as we always have in the past, so the representation of the Miamisburg Soccer program is a positive one and the team can continue to bag groceries at Cub Foods as a fund raiser again in the future.

Todd C. Emmons, Class of 1987

Posted by Terry Stump at Jul 29, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Todd played for Miamisburg from 1983-1986 and lettered three years. He also made Second Team All Mid-Miami League both his junior and senior years. Todd went on to Western State College in Colorado where he also played soccer as Forward. He currently lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado and works as a Casino Manager. He is married to his wife Eileen and they have three children, Ashley, Ayden and Ethan. His favorite memory is not a single moment but many playing with a group of guys from the time they were 8 years old all the way through high school. They were able to compile a 33-17-7 record in three years of varsity play from 1984-1986 and be a part of the most wins in a season, 12 in 1985 and least amount of goals scored upon, 20 in a season in 1986. It was a very special group of guys and a very special team.

Only One Week Left

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Jul 25, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Soccer Players (and family):

I must start this last summer note with a GIANT THANK YOU to each of our families. Your participation this month in contact days, conditioning, fundraisers and the tournament has been outstanding. I could not be more pleased as the coach of this program of the commitment level of our group.

A quick FYI....we deposited close to $10K last week into our booster account.

With that said......the season will be upon us in one short week. I encourage each player to take Monday off for some much needed rest. Then, take the next six days to finalize your pre-season training so that you come to tryouts in the best shape possible. You must know that you can meet each of the six expectations.

Please sign-up for your Cubs bagging slot for this weekend.

I will see you at tryouts on August 4th. Make sure that you have your physical completed and turned into the athletic office prior to next Monday.

I am looking forward to something great in 2008!

For Soccer,

Coach Ric
