Week 4 - Tough Challenges
Dear Soccer Players (and families):
I am proud of the overall effort during our first week of games. With a combined record of 3-2-1, it is the first time in 5 years that the program ended the opening week above .500% .....congratulations.
We have two very strong challenges this week....home tonight against Butler and away on Thursday versus Northmont. You need to be at the school at 3:30 for the bus on Thursday.
I want to thank everyone who aided in our alumni events on Saturday. We saw 37 alumni play and/or attend the game and they were so very complimentary of the day. A special shout of thanks to our volunteer referees for the game...thanks Frank, Jerry and Alex.
Quick reminders for all of the boys to eat right, get plenty of sleep and to drink plenty of water. Also, you must stay on top of your grades as we have weekly eligibility and we cannot afford to lose anyone.
For Soccer,
Coach Ric
THE TEAM OF THE 80's
Head Coach Ric Campbell worked with three of the four coaches from the first decade and is pleased to announce the "Team of the 80's". This collection of 18 players were voted on from an initial list of 25 candidates. Seven players were unanimous choices. "I am so excited to recognize this fine group of past Viking soccer stars, " shares Coach Campbell. "These players represent the best of the first ten seasons of Viking soccer. I have lived most of my life in Miamisburg and was able to see many of these players on the pitch. When I joined the program in 2006, one of my goals was to find ways to get our alumni involved with our team. This recognition is one step towards that goal. To look back and thank those who contributed at a high level should be motivation to our current crop of players.."
The coach of the 80's is Tom Didas. Tom holds the record for most wins in a career (47), in a season (12) and most goals scored by a team (87). He guided the Vikings for five seasons after assisting the program the first two years.
