WRESTLERS EXCEL IN MARYLAND

Posted by Martin Gleason at Jun 19, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Bound Brook wrestlers have always excelled in freestyle wrestling, and have to search for freestyle tournaments come the month of June. The search revealed a good tournament in Columbia, Maryland which BB wrestlers have attended in recent years at River Hill High School. This year¹s tournament proved no different as the BB wrestlers faced numerous quality opponents over the course of the day. The youngest and lightest of the BB Wrestlers was victorious as Gabe Gleason (80) won his weight class. Despite getting a good blow to the schnozolla(that¹s a term for the nose) with six seconds left, he prevailed 9-8. Gabe¹s opponent was also the youngest freestyle referee we have ever seen. Andrew Flanagan faced a steady diet of state champions in winning his title. Flanagan defeated state champions from Maryland, North Carolina and Delaware. Andrew pinned 3x Delaware State Champion Mark Sianni in 1:36. Sianni is ranked 5th in the U.S. at 125. Dave Shubick came close to victory as he lost in overtime of the final round 3-2 to Delaware¹s Andrew Kopinsky. David won three matches en route to his finals showdown. Including the defeat of two 6¹0² wrestlers. (They¹re some skinny Maryland wrestlers). Chris Konysz moved up a division and tangled against some older wrestlers placing fourth, however, He won his age group by default. Nick Murray placed 2nd in the schoolboy division with one mean arm bar. Other wrestlers who competed and won matches on the day were Jason Gregor and Geremy Burgoes. The wrestlers were treated to a chicken dinner and hot Krispy Kremes after their long successful day.
